These cams might have paid for themselves if it meant i could've reused some of the old shims.

Is that seller who I think it is?

Yes.
I would want see cast numbers on shafts & box details as may not be gtir ones ! like the new only test fitted probably remark ! :-)

10 ozzy bucks for PP fee sucks & shipping quite high but overall for full set of shims it is decent compared to nissan & faster service too, for the oz guys it a bargain :-)
Did you go for 16 slotted ?

It may help keep rocker in situ but they tend get pushed back off pivot rather than slip to side.
They not as bad as tales would suggest, I've never had one come off at over 8k rpm & only ever done couple heads with rocker mess. if all in good shape & set well they pretty reliable :-/

Bang on what Mr B said above

The rockers do not normally come off the side they move back off the rocker pivot point which is why our guy Terry Dolphin first developed rocker stoppers to lessen the risk of this happening.

It certainly however does not hurt to go for shim locators as opposed to a flat and sided shim.
Also the locator shim should be located generally on the l/h side of rocker arm as the foot on that side of rocker is fractionally wider Wink

Give me a try when you have your shim sizes Neil, il have a look for you, we may not be able to get to your precision measurements but then tbh there is no need for those measurements to be precise as long as the rocker arm sits fairly square on the pivot point is the main thing.

Fyi its wrong cam selection (ramp angle) which plays a major part in rockers being thrown as well as incorrect clearances of course

^ true, being careful with what cams you use will help & fitting new or uprated springs to match cams will too as poor/wrong springs can result in rocker being unloaded & then easily nudged back by cam lobe rotation. surprised jun or tomei never done a 54c full roller rocker arm kit with pivot stoppers & matching cams/springs

So my shims arrived, i fitted them and they are still miles out! Mad  Mad
What a mess, a total shambles.
Either i measured the original shims wrong and messed up the maths or the supplier sent the wrong ones.
Im gonna measure the new ones at work tomorrow to make sure.

But what now? Order more shims?
I regret buying new shims now, i reckon i could've bought a shim puncher and had the whole lot gapped by now.

I doubt im gonna have the R ready for Japfest  next month.
Sad

Bummer mate! If you do go down the feeler blade route as Mr B pointed out in another thread, 6mm punch is too big by about 0.20mm I machined my punch down so they fitted in the shim perfect. And also can easily be removed if they wear or I measured incorrectly. Did mine yesterday and gaps are around 0.20 - 0.22mm now

Can you return the shims? Might be worth asking?
