actually easier than you think if you don't care for your comfort or safety. i remember seeing one of DPs white cars. I don't know who owned it but you would not of wanted to crash that. Even had plenty of swaging holes, i.e.
https://2img.net/h/i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/freebone/IMG_1438.jpg

someone on one of the forums has a list of weighed and removed stuff. i remember thinking it is amazing how much you can shift with minimal effort. sure grp/carbon/polycarb is not that cheap, but considering the weight loss it's the best £ for £ mod.

here's some guess work but you get the gist.

air con pump + condenser, brackets, wiring and ancillaries = around 20kg.

I can barely lift a standard door with windows on my own, but a grp door with plastic windows i can just pick up one handed. they weigh >50% less which is easy 30kg saving.

same for the boot and bonnet. so easy another 20kg.

rear seats, interior and sound deadening = 30kg.
spare wheel = 6kg.
tool kit = 2kg.
lightweight battery can save 5kg.
remove the rear bumper reinforcement bar and heavily chop out the front bar = 5kg.
Y bracket and bastard bolts (I'm really scraping the barrel now) = 1kg Smile

rear quarter windows, polycarb vs glass is 50% lighter = 5kg.

1/4 tank of petrol vs full = 35kg saving so worth baring in mind siphoning tank if you are 1/4 mile crazy.

all the above is easy >100kg. for sure the driver is a big part of it but you can see how to get a good 1/4 time with little bhp.

I fully interior stripped a standard car years ago and put harnesses in, didn't change any metal body panels though, but it was so much quicker I was amazed. Shame i didn't get to 1/4mile that car. Horribly loud and clangy, uncomfortable constant road noise on motorway, was fun for 18 months but had to go back to standardish comfy... getting old Sad

lol, plus super rusty arches and take massive toilet break before you hit the strip Smile

The fastest 1/4 I have seen was Mr Quinn run a 11.6
I was talking to a guy at pod on the weekend & thought it would be cool to build a drag pulsar as a club project to see if we could get a uk record!!!
How hard would it be to get a pulsar to run a low 10 sec pass
I know the drivetrain would be the main problem!!!
Also making reliable 700+ horsepower
Could be fun though...

Cheers mr Si. Glad to be of service, it will be faster again soon, LOL!

Nothings hard with endless money pal, just problem I would say is that you won't get enough people to chip into a car they'll never have, especially when they'd end up been at least a £20k budget, to be honest probably even more!! Smile

Looking forward to seeing the beast back with more power mate Twisted Evil was 470 hp not enough lol
I thought 400 was nuts & to fast for road use but I'm a big girl who doesn't want a heavy cc clutch & loud exhaust anymore!!!

Yeah that's a lot of weight loss from a pulsar & I'm sure there is more if you think long & hard, sounds like it could be a scary place to be, must be a buzz though!!! I know a guy that had Europe quickest road legal rx7 his pb was a 8.8 at pod!!! Now building a rx8 he wants to run down to 6 seconds.

We could a donation a mod for the car to start the ball rolling lol

What about sponsor like quaife & so on!!! We have the resident gearbox specialist Neil lol

Need lots n lots of the folding stuff to build a to build a semi reliable drag car.

I'm planning on running the Rashiteen on the strip (basically a pulsar in disguise) it should make around 700-800bhp when done.

I've already flogged the Hiteq engine that was in it. As good as the engine was there's no way it would have lasted at that power level.
So I'm building a stroked lump for it with a few very nice bits that should hopefully ball age keep her all together and as reliable as possible at that power level.

Already have a straight cut ppg dog box with lsd centre and brand new nismo front diff
Will be running a motec ecu with antilag and launch mapped by myself Smile
Huge Precision turbo with ext wastegate
Side exit custom exhaust
Charge and air to air coolers
Custom made plenum with single throttle bodies running 2 Rc injectors per cylinder
No maf just map sensor

Theres lots & lots of other bits going in to this car and will be aiming to get her in to the 9sec bracket will also be used as a track car, also road legal Laughing

To date in total I reckon it's cost me around 20k and Is far from finished and that's with me doing everything and obtaining a majority of the parts secondhand so deffo is not a cheap pastime

Should / will be ready to run the 1/4 mile this time next year

Getting 9 seconds would be amazing and really put you on the map.
Would be great to see how this progresses in a project post with lots of pics? Very Happy
