As said I have the straight cut ppg dog box in my Rasheen and can change gear fine with it but you are much more likely to chip 1st and 2nd gear if using Car on road.
The dog engagement is designed to be banged into gear and ideally flat shifted which is impossible on a road car. If you pussy foot around trying to select gear without crunching it then you are much more likely to do just that and cause damage to the gear.
Also the gearing is a higher ratio than standard gearset so ideally you need the 5th even if it's just to rest your ears on a motorway from the constant whine of the straight cut gearing.

So it depends what car is mainly used for but tbh I think a straight cut synchro is always going to be the best option unless it's purely used as a full on track car
That's my opinion anyway

I've just been reading pars offerings. They do the needle roller bearing conversion and was wondering can this be used on standard gearsets or only pars gearsets

I've thought about it over night and synchro is the way forward for me, for how much time it would be on the roads etc compared to track I just can't justify a dog box for my needs

No par Darren, ordered my set, just hope I don't have any problems, seen a link but it was from 2005 about a guy who's par set bust through the bell housing twice, but also heard a lot of good things!!

1st to 4th straight cut set, it works out at £2150, then there will be import tax on top, buying a stratcher gear box brace as well

Not what I wanted this time of year but I'm fed up of taking the bloody box out every other week, I've not made my mind up yet about the selector tbh, not 100% if it's totally needed, part of me thinks I'll probably be fine without it (as I've never had a problem) and could save a decent wedge, and the other thinks just do it whilst it's apart, but then with what bob said about them I think I'll leave it.....

Thats because he would have still had a standard final drive, and probably 5th gear, causing the same side axial load that bursts the gearbox housings. I ordered from PAR also but went for the full whack including final drive and billet selector. They are brilliant to deal with and good value for money. Import tax is indeed shit though....

That was probably an Aussie guy from Queensland. There was a problem with the machining that caused the breaks but once PAR figured it out and modified the machining it fixed the problem. So they should be all good now.

current PAR designed kit is very good for the money, gone full straightcut now while early syncro kit was semi helical I believe . Most chance of case issues is 1st 2nd & 3rd, quite easy double end strength of case nose with resin mould & steel plate, I use steel as can use thinner material keeping maximum working space in a already tight area. for serious hp & drag use then strengthening plate can be added to bell housing base but best effort requires moving to custom hydraulic release so you get space to make most of plating effort. welding got to be top notch or it will actually be more weak.
PAR mixed with sensible case work = a box that can take a good 500hp & some rough use at sensible budget.
If serious big power & competitive drag use then transmission issues are likely what ever you do.
the trust gearkit made for them by quaife looked a seriously decent bit of kit, bit rare though.

I was hoping it was an old manufacturing issue, I am talking 11 years ago!

I know you can buy the strengthening plates for the bell housing that weld in place, but I think I would have to change my clutch,,and at the power I'm running I can't see it being that necessary....
