PartyPete wrote:My gearset turned up today, not bad saying I ordered them Sunday, must say they look sturdy! Looking forwards to fitting them and taking them for a drive

They are a damned good gearkit and tbh are far better quality than the quaife set
We recently fitted a set in a guys car on here when we did his engine build.
Partially delivered the car last weekend so drove it around hour and half, reckon it will be a great box for track use but very noisy on long journeys and you find yourself wanting to get it in the stock helical cut 5th asap lol as the whining noise cuts right through you after a time.
For a straight cut gearset its very easy to live with otr and will be great on track that im sure.

So providing its built correctly by someone who knows what they are doing and not by a 2 bit monkey self professed pro, you should hopefully be very happy with it

Cheers Bob, I hope I'll be happy with it, fingers crossed, I'm using the same guy as before and par are going to have a quick chat with him to go over a couple of things to make sure all is well, I'll let people know how I go on and just how noisy it is (barring in mind I have a side exit)

Well it's all in and running, what a difference, the gear selection feels so accurate and solid, not like porridge before, makes a decent whining noise but not as bad as I thought (probably because all you can here is the side exit) I've kicked it's head in a little and it seems good, fingers crossed it stays that way!!

Is a good kit at sensible cost & probably best option when doing track usage .
Hope you like it .... you got billet 3/4 selector !
Don't break it too quickly !  lol

The box builder said how good it was and that the gears had to be pressed into the shafts where quaife just dropped on, no standard selector still

Hi Pete - Adam here, I bought your 3rd gear, many thanks!

have you changed this bushing?
http://www.amazon.com/Energy-Suspension-7-1103G-Shifter-Bushing/dp/B000CN9AWE

it is 20/21 on this diagram:
http://static.nissan4u.com/epc_img/2518900023008.png

and consider stiffening up the gear stick linkage like group A/N, e.g. this is what i did:
https://s681.photobucket.com/user/mreguest_bucket/media/forum%20build/image034.jpg.html

https://s681.photobucket.com/user/mreguest_bucket/media/forum%20build/image035.jpg.html

I have been suspicious of sloppy linkage in the past causing gearbox failure due to poorly executed gear changing.

also consider stiffening up engine stabilizer mounts to reduce engine/gearbox rotation during gear shift. I put mine in a bottle and filled it with A60 polyurethane rubber, then cut it down to size:

https://s681.photobucket.com/user/mreguest_bucket/media/forum%20build/image037.jpg.html

and

Good luck!

+1 on stabilizer bush & solid mount type conversion, helps drastically to run through linkages & replace/upgrade as needed >

Hi Adam, I have changed the bush you are talking about to the uprated polyurethane type, I have also done the front and rear stabilisers as you have with the polyurethane rubber,I have also put an uprated polyurethane engine mount in, the gearbox ones are standard, but I'm sure I'll change those at some point, the other thing you've mentioned I haven't done, is there anymore info about for this? What's the point of it? Cheers

i can't find a photo example of the steel box section group N gear linkage mount upgrades. Someone on one of the forums has made some in the past???

the group N manual has this picture.

http://www.canadagtir.com/sites/default/files/old/user412/11.jpg

in my modification i just used a piece of solid steel C section from a shelf bracket and drilled a hole through it. this basically turned my old shitty one into a solid steel one...

if you use a piece of steel box section you can drill two holes for the vertical attachment and one hole at 90 degrees through the middle for the linkage bolt to go through.

i assume many peoples mounts are 20+ years old and full of cracks like mine is. this means the rubber can flex further toward the gearbox and reduce the accuracy of the gear shift.

a brand new one looks like this:
