More expensive by like another 1000 euro at a guess, can't see prices on the poland site.
quaife done straightcut dog gtir gearset for trust, real nice gear width & teeth on that kit if can get hold of one.
Dog okay if purely track/sport use but PITA for any road use & easy damage dogs with bad changes.

What are the differences between straight cut and dog boxes? I have an idea but not 100%?!

PITA = pian in the arse

Both current PAR syncro & dog are straight-cut teeth gears.
difference is gear engagement syncro or dog tooth engagement
Have a look at facebook link as has pic of both for gtir builds they done.

See here for the dog set (and specs): http://www.par-engineering.pl/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2

Price for 1-4 (5th is optional extra): 13.250 Zloty; so around 2400 GBP

I can't seem to see the differences between the two?

From what I can see dog boxes make a lot of noise (which is no issue as it sounds great) but you can up shift without using the clutch, so a faster gear change, any other actual gains over a standard straight cut gearset? Any strength increases? Any less stress on the box casing etc?

Dog box is strong but I would not say very good you change without clutch but off revs back on and using the clutch can cause damage. Nightmare round town in traffic etc.

Dog box is straight cut gearset (there is no difference) dog engagement is just a term used for a straight cut gearset with no synchromesh.

Most quaife gear sets are semi helical cut gears so not straight cut neither are they helical. the quaife gearset normally is synchromesh

Helical cut synchromesh gears are what's fitted to standard boxes

With dog engagement you ideally have to flat shift to change gears, need to be a bit forcefull with them as if you pussy foot around you can take the edge off the gears and you'll normally find this has happened on used dog boxes in mainly 1st and 2nd gear if used on the road

Cheers for that bob, as obviously it'll be more on the road than track I'll steer clear of that then, sounds like a night mare in traffic! Fingers crossed shot peening will help it last!

I'm glad I ended up with a ppg straight cut synchro gear set, will make road driving so much easier. Still damn noisy though.

Yeah, PPG is nice, but damn expensive! Nice that they offer custom ratios too... i wouldnt care about the noise, as long as 5th is standard cruising is fine.

Yeh PAR kit offers quite a lot for the price & good gearkit for the not too extreme power cars or total savage drag use. The noise is nice & like you say cruising can be standard. Having it as syncro or dog is good too. Would of liked it to have squeezed in wider gears for 1st to 3rd but besides that the revision kit is pretty good effort .

Just generally speaking I can't get over how much gear sets cost. It's absolutely ridiculous!
