I've never seen those chain gallery squirter come out but machinist I use is bit of a SR fan & he seen it before, have a habit of knocking out timing or jamming against pump casing cracking it. He adds an extension on the end so it almost touching the chain cover housing thus can not fall out, obviously don't fix the issue of why have over pressure but could save engine from further expensive damage .
First time I've seen one of those come out in 11 years of working on these but just goes to show that you can never rule out the unexpected with anything lol, and yes he was extremely lucky that it never lifted the chain off the sprocket
We're bolting the engine back together aron but not gonna run his brand new 3076 on her so he's sending me down his old turbo.
It worries me that if there is still debris left in the oil galleries that it could happen again so if it does at least he's not going to destroy an expensive turbo, better to ruin a secondhand stock one.
Really the whole thing needed stripping completely, cylinder and piston on no1 need checking and the oil galleries need thoroughly cleaning.
We've cleaned out everything as best we can though, checked crank, bigend bearings and fitting a replacement oil pump and filter so fingers crossed that it's enough and there's no real damage but I'm not that optimistic with this one I'm afraid.
