After putting my turbo back on it had no play, since its been on for about 50miles it now has loads of in and out play, now it doesn't smoke at all, but it still seems to be lacking in power, it boosts to 16psi no problem and stays there

but could there still be something wrong with it causing it not to be fully perform?

Heres a pic of the blades if you zoom in does it look like the blades are chipped?

It does look like something has had a scrape around it ..... on the blades ..... is it a standard t28 ? When you put it on did you crank the engine over to get the oil up before firing it up ?

That's what I was thinking looks like something might of been dragged through it, yep standard T28, yep always prime the turbo to build oil up before firing it up, it seems ok off the line but, when putting your foot down in say 3rd from 2k it seems sluggish and obviously that's when it's working the turbo making it build up pressure from low down

yes il guarantee you your timings out or being held back by a faulty knock sensor maybe.
have you done a code check?

has a car in this week with exact same thing and when we checked the timing it was running at 8 degrees as opposed to 18-20
reason for this was the crank pulley damper had slipped slightly so although it showed the correct timing on the gun it was actually a false reading

swapped the pulley for a known good one and then we got the true figure of 8 degrees

as for the endfloat in the tubby............don't honestly think that's your problem here

there should be a pointer sticking out of the timing cover.
use the second mark from the left on the pulley and mark that one only with tipex
set the timing gun to 20 degrees and turn dizzy until the mark aligns with the pointer

as long as you can see where it is you should be able to line the marks up roughly by eye

Ok so disconnected the tps reved to 3500rpm 3 times looked at timing it was about 12 deg, adjusted it to about 18, turned off plugged tps back in, now looking at it with the tps plugged back in should it still read 18 coz its no where near that once running with the tps back in, but once I remove it again it reads 18 is this normal?

21Turbo Empty Re: Turbo 13th July 2013, 2:32 pm

Here's a vid the timing with the tps disconnected is about 18
now this vid shows the timing with the tps reconnected I thought it would still read 18 once the tps is re connected
The rattle noise is clutch release bearing before anyone asks lol
