Well I've just had to drive 2 minuits down the road and I've pulled up at junction and some guy in a crappy Hyundai has over shot the corner and drove right into my baby Mad Evil or Very Mad Sad Crying or Very sad

The guy seemed genuine enough and even though it was technically his fault it was just one of those things. He says he would rather give me cash than go through insurance so I need to price up the damage, I'm just worried about sourcing another tourini bumper

Shocking bill Shocked i would say you would be lucky to find another turini bumper so it would have to be repaired then by the look of the pic you will need a new wing indicater and headlight wich are not really that expensive thats aslong as there is no damage beyond that however you got to have them colour matched and sprayed so its not going to be a couple of hundred quid job ...dependant on how much you are confident in repairing it yourself of course ...

If I was you bill is go through the Insurance! Some one ran into the back of my PRIMERA a few weeks ago and it's been very worth my while, let's put it like that! You'll come off better going through the Insurance, but that's just my opinion pal.

Yeah i would suggest going through insurance as a body shop will do a better job with regards to the bumper repair i would of said source a second hand wing as better than them filling it full of filler ...

Thanks for the sympathy guys.

With regards to taking cash or going through insurance, I think I would rather take the cash and get it fixed as I don't want to ruin my no claims or have any accidents on my record. Plus it's only a little bump really and it would be a shame tho have the car recorded as accident damaged.

I have got a front mount and it had crossed my mind to check it over but haven't had the chance baecase I just stuck the car in the garage and went out lol on the way home though my AFR gauge was reading normal so hopefully it's fine.

I'll have a good look over things tomorrow and see whats actually been damaged.

On the plus side the little R is brilliant in the snow, she's unstoppable! Well.. until Hyundai's come flying out of nowhere that is Laughing

OMG
you are one unlucky bloke mr bill ...
If bonnet not damaged & nothing damaged beyond wing, lights & bumper it not too bad :-/
You got spare clear headlights so I would suggest giving them a trial along with either clear or orange indicators, obviously still charge the guy for lights though.
Would get decent used original wing from bob & it best painted off car anyway.
biggest loss is the bumper as hard to find another & repair work on GRP obviously can be done but it never as good & they about as strong as an egg box to start with.
I would price quality painting at £100 a panel, add to that bumper lights & wing & you looking at £400-£500 to be in your favour but not by much.
The guy could have insurance access around half of that anyway ...
Need act fast on getting cash in hand as if hold off too long you may have trouble if need approach through insurance ...
Hope it works out okay & sorry to see this tragedy :-(

Dont take cash bill it normally gets messy belive me. Chance he thinks your car is like his. He is probably expecting a couple hundred quid.

Body shops hate stuff like repairing your bumper hours of work when they could get a different insurance job in and spray a bonnet in a couple of hours n charge 250 quid plus a wing is 80 quid to paint average so they do that at same time. Now tell me why a body shop would want to spend hours repairing a non standard bumper. Ps if they do what do you think they will charge

Ok so i will say take some guesses indicator £15 posted. Headlight £20 posted wing £40 posted. Your kit is about £800 so i guess bumper will be £350-400 by its self. Repaired lets say £150 paint work £150. Your radiator you need £45. Someone or body shop to swap the bits £80 and thats just what i can see from pictures so i would say

£450 at best with not a 100% job or double that for a perfect job if it needs a new bumper. Like i say its finding a body shop willing to do repairs on parts these days. Thats off what i can see from pictures any bent metal on that corner is a nightmare and will lower the price on your car if you sell. Going off that headlight its pushed well back so all clips smashed and i would guess bent metal at the top of it

You seriously should go down the insurance route Bill, I think you'll be making a big mistake if you don't, and the guy may get a massive shock when he finds out how much it will actually cost to fix it then try and wriggle out of it! If you go down the route of insurance with damage to the car and 'personal injury, you will be easily looking at a couple thousand pounds in your hand to fixing her, and may be treating her to a few performance goodies? You can't hold onto the spoon for ever Wink

It is sounding like a better idea to go through insurance, I have a chronic stiff neck so could probably get a claim for that too!

The only thing that puts me off going through insurance is how much my insurance will go up on my normal policy.
I have 6years no claims and my insurance is still a crippler on my regular policy for normal cars lol

The guy said to me he'd pay cash and I said to be honest mate it's going to be expensive and might have to go through insurance but later on after we had exchanged details he said just find out what it's gonna cost and e will pay cash because he doesn't want his insurance premiums to go sky high and I can see where he's coming from.

Now johnny had mentioned the headlight being pushed in and the metal maybe being bent it's making me think I might be best to go through insurance!

I do know a boddy shop that will do the work, it won't be on the cheap but they will look after me.

That bumper is going to be the big problem to repair/replace

20Winter scars Empty Re: Winter scars 27th December 2014, 10:26 am

stevie904

you do realise your insureance company may write your car off?
plus even though the accident wasnt your fault your premium will most likely go up anyway.

That's what I'm worried about mate, my insurance going up. My insurance on the R is cheap as chips so that doesn't matter but my normal insurance will go sky high for an everyday car

Do cash with him just you need something at least a simple statement with a signature he hit you and let him know asap that its not going to be cheap. Just play your card that its his insurance that will rocket. Dont mention your worried about yours nor the fact if it goes to high they may write your car off. Just say its on his insurance and they will fit all new parts which will cost his insurance a big claim he far better give you cash

Its a tricky one, goind for claim you need be sure he going admit guilt which unlikely to start off with as any legal assistance & the insurers advise against it to start with.
whatever insurance coughs up you will be paying extra premium for a good few years so it worth thinking about.
I expect headlight socket easy to sort judging from those pics but pics are not same as looking in person.
If Rad & intercooler fine then only real heavy expense is bumper repair or replacement, bumper damage doesn't look look too bad & seen & repaired a lot worse myself.
see your wing had skimming of filler already & assume that was to blend it to bumper edge better !
also see bonnet edge bit chipped ...
