Evening,

Swithering over wether or not to switch to a 2871, or stick with the 3071, who on here runs a 2871 and how do they fare?

Currently achieving 1.4bar by around 4k rpm but might be nice to have more response, I'm unlikely to want more power than the car currently has and 1.4bar is barely tickling the 3071.

Specifically looking at an Owen development M spec 2871, .64ar

Merry Christmas!

I was running a 2871r at 385 bhp, it was very responsive and picked up very quickly, always put a big grin on my face, however I wanted more 'kick' and power up top, and switched to a 3071, and haven't looked back! A little more 'laggy' but when it kicks in worth the extra wait! I wouldn't go back to a 2871, but they are damn good fun! Hope this helps

I'm pleased this topic has started as I'm running the standard tubby currently and giving thought to which is the best upgrade.
Are these both fitted to forged motors guys?

Mine has forged Pistons, I believe 340ish is the max to go on standard Pistons, I may stand corrected though!

Forged pistons here too.

Pete, which turbine housing do you run on your 3071 and what do you run it at? When are you acheiving peak boost?

I'd need to dig the paper work out from the tune, of the top of my head it's the .84 housing, 1.85 bar boost and 405bhp atm, not sure when peak power is without looking at the graph

Unfortunately I have no idea what size my turbine housing is so don't even know if I can swap I think to the smaller one for more response.

What power are you running?

Graph that came with the car was 362bhp@1.3bar

Seems a little pointless having that turbo then? If you don't want more power and just more response perhaps a 28 would be worth thinking about? But if you have the supporting mods I.e injectors etc would it not be worth looking at upping the power?

It's ready to go 400+ it was running that power because the fuel pump wiring couldn't cope with the demand and was leaning out, have now rectified this.

But the gearbox is the weak link now.

I don't use the car on track though so response is king which is why I am considering the smaller unit.

I'm on a standard box and so far having no trouble at all, (apart from the clutch didn't appreciate it) I know what you mean about response but I really can't fault the 3071, I'll get the the dyno graph out tomorrow and put a pic up if that's any help? It'll explain a little more?!

Cheers, good to see. Having it mapped next month as it's running mega rich so maybe he can smooth it all out and change my mind

If your only making just over 400bhp at 1.85bar then you have issues somewhere either with your mapping or there is a restriction somewhere.
At 1.5 bar you should be making at least 430bhp.
I would get that checked out if I was you.

Whytie

Whytie

I would of thought at 1.2-1.3 you should see around 400bhp on a 3071r

Yes it's the exhaust,I'm on a 2.5 inch and need a 3 all the way through! Getting that sorted in the new year

It would appear mine is also seriously underperforming too then bit I'm also 2.5 inch from catback.

Yes I'm 2.5 from turbo back, the mapper and few others have said its massively restricting it and should be making a lot more power than that

I assume you still have the standard turbo elbow and downpipe as well.?

I think you can run more power, maybe 400hp on standard pistons but you have to take into account the fact the these pistons are circa 20 years old. Its the fuelling/mapping that's important on any tune of car.

All depends how long you want them to last for.

Mine died at 1.2 bar when the ring lands decided to shit themselves.

Yeah so did mine but like I said what can you expect out of 20 year old pistons, anything I suppose can be a gamble.
