1Rear arches Empty Rear arches 17th April 2012, 5:33 pm

Ajay.

Stripped my rear door cards off to inspect the arches although theres no rust showing on the outside of the arches I did see surface rust in the inside of the arch, now to cause any more further rot isit best to treat that or better to get it cut and welded,Iv been looking at various products like hammerite converting rust into metal, but does that stuff really work? But again I wouldnt say it's rot just surface rust.so opinions please

Thanks

Iv heard good reviews about the hammerite rust gel,but again how do I go about treating it to getting it any worser, last thing I want is not for it to bubble on the outside as its only just stared on the inside, bloody rust

Its not just about the power fella!
To maintain goodness you have to treat it not abuse it! Ajay have a look at youtube and search how to treat rusty arches. Am no expert but i've heard it all depends on how severe the rust is and if its not that bad it can be cured for along time. Smile
Correct guys?

if it just surface rust from inside then give it a good wirebrushing and as u say put some rust treatment init, but eventually you will need to replace them Mad

also if your worried about more rust take the rear wheel off and you'll see where the metal panels have been joined, on my car rust was starting in the groove, so again use a wirebrush attachment on a drill and clean the gorrove out then fill in it with tetrosyl or any other undersealer.

You got to treat the bugger before it gets worse and spreads! Mad
Watch out for the money scamming bodyshops because they scrap the rust bubbles out and smooth it out and then cover it with bodyfiller! Mad
Give it a few weeks and it will be worse than before

Mate if it's just surface rust then your so lucky, what you need to do is grind it ALL out as said above, but then do what Nissan never did (twats) which is-
Spray the inside with UPOL Acid 8 aerosol primer.
Then buy some Tereson seam sealer, stick it in a sealant gun and seal the fuck out of the then joins. And more, this will create an air and water tight seal. And will never rust again.
What happens on pulsars is te water seeps in through the grommets on the window seals and the rusts the fuck out of the joins. Rusting from the inside out (like old escorts)
But if you can avoid welding and cutting new arches defo do as te rust will always come back doing this.
If you want a hand doing it give me a shout. Best way to save these cars IMO!
