your supposed to use iridium plugs in gtir but.................if you have a bad map or fuelling issue and the car is detting and cylinder temps are high youll end up melting the iridium tip on the plug and this will bounce around inside the cylinder literally pebbledashing the piston and combustion chamber in the head which will render your engine as fooked.
if the earth electrode breaks or melts on a copper cored plug such as bcr8es it will just throw the melted bit out the exhaust valve and should cause no damage to your engine.
downside of using them is they don't last as long as the iridiums but at a third of the price you cant grumble
