Not really connected to the miss fire but mine use to do the holding back thing when I first got it and I think it was because my base ignition timing was way out, like 14-15 instead of 20.

It used to have moments it would run great then others it was real flat feeling although boosted fine.
You have proberly checked this already but worth having a close look at the pulley to make sure its still in good shape and the timing has not been setup with a fooked pulley.
And you also proberly know the ignition timing needs to be set with the tps disconnected and the engine under a 1000rpm or it will most likely be incorrect.

The fresh fuel is also a consideration if its only just started doing it,maybe you filled with regular unleaded by mistake and the det sensor is picking up det and the ecu switching to the knock map and making it feel flat?

It's not the fuel because I always use shell V-power or if I can't use that I'll use tesco 99. I just put some fresh V-power in her today so I doubt that's got anything to do with it, and I have noticed the holding back thing before so I doubt it's the fuel. Checking the pulley Is a good idea though mate!

Thanks for all the suggestions everybody, some good ideas of things to check out over the weekend  thumbsup

Could the det sensor be connected to the little misfire I have been getting? I think it could well be the cause of the "holding back" issue I have

You should still have  the det sensor on your other engine bill so you can practice taking it off  with your eyes shut  thumbsup

I'll have a gander to see if it's there, it could be something that wasn't on the engine I bought off Paul though, paus engine had a few ancillaries on it but not everything so I'll have to check

dotn think the det sensor would have anything to do with the misfire, but as said it can cause problems but not bring up the fault code. Its a bit tricky to get to and the big question will be do you still have the y bracket on the back of the engine.

Yep Dangerous will sort it for you bill he's quite clever for a northern monkey lol

As said a misfire is not the cause of a dodgy det sensor if faulty and it picks up false knock it will pull ignition out midrange which will cause the car to hold back and feel gutless.

My guess is a fault with the afm or wiring going to it, that will cause a misfire coming on to boost where one second the car wants to pull and the next second it's popping and misfiring until you back off the throttle.
If you bring on boost slowly does it still misfire then or will it rev slowly through the misfire?
Drop it at Davies and if he's stuck he can give me a call if he can wind his phone up enough lol

No it dosent misfire when coming on boost bob, I think you've mis read what I'm saying lol it holds back when coming on boost but it dosent actually misfire.
The misfire is when you hold partial throttle at low load just like before but it's got worse, I can feel it now when driving at very light throttle in the lower rev range but if you put any form of load on the engine the misfire goes away.

It seems to misfire fairly bad if you hold it at roughly 1500 rpm. It's got the odd pop and stumble at idle and it's a bit worse when you hold light throttle but the real rough spot seams to be just under 1500rpm.

I think the misfire and holding back are unrelated issues. I've probably got a number of things causing me problems to be fair, I'm sure Dave will get somewhere with it when he looks at it.
