id recommend working up to a pulsar and getting some experience with a slower car first, these cars aint really for the faint hearted and especially putting it to the front wheels your gonna have a good few underwear changes if it doesnt end up in a field Wink your gonna have a hard time insuring one of these for a first car

I have a problem of being 17 and just passing and having high insurance plus really wanting a GTIR Pulsar! I currently have two in the family but just cannot get insured on them, talking £10,000+++

Post pictures of the 2 in the family. Wink
If you can't even get insured as a second driver to your parents don't bother.
I've done the fwd gtir route twice, it's just not worth it, you'll end up wanting the real thing 4x4.

Look for another car, get your parents to take you out in the car more often, drive it on private roads and drag strips with them, then your time will come to own it.
End...

Oh and welcome, enjoy the forms.

My advice would be insure it properly, if somebody hits you your going to be in big trouble especially if your involved in a fatal accident and they see you a 17 year old lad in a 1.4 that's actually a 300bhp monster and it will instantly be your fault regardless, it's just not worth it mate but having said that I could of insured all my cars dodgy because I have never been involved in an accident but I consider myself very lucky in that respect

Welcome to the forum fella,
I agree with Bob's statement; many people I knew when I was your age had stupidly high powered cars and I can guarantee 50% were stacked within 6 months. Now im not saying you would but all it takes is one error.... I know I had a slight incident with a ditch in my 1.3 fiesta   Rolling Eyes  Get yourself a cheap run around and get some experience behind you. Meanwhile buy a pulsar and spend the time making it decent and how you want it or as said try and get out in one of the ones in your family.
I didn't get mine till I was nearly 20...

If your so desperate why not get a gtir and use it for track days and a runabout for the road. If yr going to lie on the insurance front you might as well just buy a pulsar and stick 1.4 badges and number plate on it either way it will end up in tears. And don't blame the forum when mr Big who's in with the warden has you wearing a pink dress as he stretches yr arse hole for ya....

Yeah i will post the two in my family, Bob has seen them already!
And well the conclusion i've come to is to just get a GTiR and make it how i want and soon enough to insure it properly and in the meanwhile just drive buy a cheap runabout or a quad bike!
Thanks guys to help me come to the conclusion.
My need of a GTiR can wait for a while lol Sad

I think you will find insuring a quad can be quite expensive also, I looked into getting one last year for a bit of fun.

You could just get a glanza/starlet 1.3 turbo or a little r5gtt wich are only 1.4 turbo i know 19year old insured on them ..... not trying to put you off a pulsar but they are a group 22 and most of us on here a old farts wich makes it cheaper  Laughing

I think even a starlet is pushing it at 17 nomad, infact I think the pulsar might even have been cheaper than a starlet when I insured mine.
My first proper car was a 1.9 dturbo Peugeot wich to be honest was slow as shit but was plenty nippy enough for my first car and I had a lot of fun in that car, you don't need something stupidly fast for your first car.

Get a GTIR and spend money preparing for the day you can insure it, all that money and effort wasted converting a sunny 1.4 into a fwd sr20det could be better spent building a very nice car for when your ready for it.

The only problem is you have got to find a uk spec GTIR first, they dont come up for sale often at all be ause there arnet many lol

With the insurance company I'm with now it didn't realy make much odds if it was a sunny or a pulsar, perhaps a few hundred quid but with other insurance company's it made a massive difference.

A uk spec one will defiantly be cheaper but I would still imagine it would be about £3-4k for a first time driver if you're lucky nd can find an insurance company that will insure you on it

have you tried keith michaels insurance? theyre quite cheap.

and i dont know if its possible but if you imported a pulsar that needs registering then maybe you could declare it as a 1.4 sunny on the log book?
