Just had a ecu off bob and im thinking about taking it all the way down to edd as you lot seem to say he's about the best unless someone knows one nearer me in the midlands( nottinghamshire)?  Had a look at his web site and have i got it right , its £200 for the rollers and then £75 per hour???

Thought it was £150 for the remap on a nistune & £200 on other ecu plus dyno cost

Wondering about fittiing a wideband and setting to 1.2 bar and seeing how its running. I do have a afr which i can adjust through the rev range if needed. What do you lot think??

Don't wonder about fitting a wideband... DO IT lol its the best thing you can fit to save your engine & also fault finding etc

im sure that ecu I sent you Darren is a generically chipped ecu (similar to mines) these are non mappable.
most people run 1.2 bar boost from them, some have run 1.4bar with no problems.
if you do not have a wideband fitted then I would strongly advise getting and fitting one because as said above its one of the best diagnostic bits of kit you could ever buy and there not expensive at around £150

if not then just take the car to a rolling road and ask them to set the boost controller up for you and to monitor afr's etc when they do the run.
any half descent rr will be able to do this and it should cost you no more than £120 in total and that will include a dyno print out with your power, torque and afr graph

Im getting confused lol, so whats the differance between these and a standard ecu? If i turned my boost up to 1.2 on a standard ecu then had the fueling altered to suit would that not be the dame or are you not able to alter the fueling without one of these ecu's. i will be fitting wideband before evu and i can adjust fueling on apexi afr.

Darren,

A standard ECU cannot be modified. On standard ECUs, there are pre-defined fuelling and ignition maps, as well as additional fuelling and ignition maps which are used in the event that the engine detects knock. These maps are burned into the ECU chips and cannot be altered, even with fancy software. You'll also see (if you check the comparison I put up recently) that these maps are far from ideal. Because they supply a large amount of fuel as standard, you can normally get away with a boost hike without running into difficulties. For example, I ran 1 bar of boost on my standard Pulsar ECU for 3 years without complaints. I also ran 1.2 bar on my standard Sunny ECU with no problems. However, some other tuners (such as Mines) place a daughterboard inside the standard ECU which allows the car to run off the Mines maps instead of the standard ones. These have been altered in some way (perhaps fuelling, timing, load tables, etc.), but are again completely locked preventing more modification. Other daughterboards, from companies such as NIStune, are completely open and can therefore be updated as many times as you like.

Getting a wideband A/F gauge is an absolute *MUST* in my opinion. You will be able to see exactly where your maps need adjusting, and will also get some warning should you begin to lean out as a result of running too much boost.

Hope this helps,
Dave
