Right floks that the head off the engine now

Had a look at the bores and there's no marks etc on them the only marks I can see is honing marks not took the piston out yet that's a job for tomorrow should I be worried if there's no scoring on the bore? Cheers Scott

Having a bit trouble getting the sump off floks

So far I've taken all the bolts I can see out between the block and sump pan I've taken the lower sump pan cover off and behind the sump pan there another cover I've took that out also and the bolts behind that are all out also hammered a screw driver between the sump and block but its really tight like there's a hidden bolt I've checked over it 3 times for bolts it's tight at the gear box side any ideas? Cheers scott

yep
have you undone the 2x 10mm bolts behind the coverplate?
do not force it or you will end up breaking the rear crank main oilseal housing then its an engine or gearbox out jobby.

once they are undone at the back of the allie sump youll see 2 threaded bolt holes that never had any bolts in.......find a long couple of bolts and thread them into those holes this will then gradually break the gasket sealant away then sump will come free.

DO NOT wedge screwdrivers or the like in there to prize it away or you may well crack it or worse still break the rear main oil seal housing

You think it's worth taken the other 3 pistons out to check them even though they had good compression ?

yes seeing as its apart it would be crazy not to
they may have fine cracks so examine them carefully but they may be ok

Will I need to rehone the other 3 cylinders or just put the pistons back in?

Is there a certain way the rings have to sit? It's there anything elsie I should be looking for?

If you have not got any scores in the block then you should be ok as each one has bedded in each cylinder so aslong as you know which one went where you should be ok ....im no expert mind ....so you didnt find any more cracked or anything mate .

I've not took the other 3 out yet mate wanted to find out first none off my bores are scored:) which is a plus sign but I'd imagine if I was putting a new piston in placed it would need rehoned?

What about rings do they need to sit a certain way as in all the joins in line with each other or one at 12 o'clock one at 6 o'clock type thing?

if the other 3 pistons are ok then just put the pistons with rings back into their respective cylinders
the ring gaps should be roughly 120degrees adjacent to each other so none of them line up

if your installing a different piston with rings then you should deglaze / rehone that cylinder before fitting the replacement piston

I always thought it never mattered with regards to ring gaps linning up as a ring can spin round in the bore ...but  will often find its own niche so to speak

it does matter a lot Leighton because if they line up your gonna have big troubles with loss of compression and blowby.
the rings will move slightly as there is always more wear on the thrust side of piston obviously so they will settle in that position but if there is movement they will all move so the gaps will remain roughly the same
