1Thinking about selling up Empty Thinking about selling up 19th August 2012, 7:47 pm

After thinking about it for a few days I'm pretty certain that I want to cut my losses and part ways with my pulsar. In the short time I've had it I have spent a lot of time and even more money on it but now the turbo has started smoking I've lost heart with it. I'm unsure how to try and salvage some of the money I've spend, sell it as it is or break it for parts. Still drives spot on and isn't down on power just smokes on full boost which is really annoying me. This is what it has on it

D2 adjustable coil overs
wilwood 4pots (brand new green stuff pads)
braided brake lines
brand new FMIC
OZ superleggeras no curbing at all fresh white paint
tubular exhaust manifold
braided oil lines
new walbro 255
brand new rear discs and pads
std engine from bob less than 2000 since I fitted it
std t28 turbo (obviously smoking now)
mongoose exhaust
new clutch
shell is mint with fresh paint
interior is mint
gearbox and all running gear is spot on
just been taxed this month but has short mot
70000miles, all jap service history and owners manual, still has umbrella and what ever else I've forgotten.
and what ever else I've forgotten. Any advice appreciated.

Stunning worth more in parts but way to nice to break. My advice would be see bob get another turbo get it on and if still serious sell the car working maybe cost £300 tops for a turbo whoever buys it would want more than that knocked off the asking price and if they were not local it would need trailered away to be safe etc. Way to nice to brake tho sorry to hear this what sort of money you thinking ?

I agree you would probably be better of sorting it out with another tubby and selling it if you dont want the hassle anymore but truth is these cars are worth more in bits shame to see such a nice example go though.

Im not sure I know id prob get more in parts but I dont want bits of car hanging around for ages. I've spent over 4k on it in the last 6months and i know i wont get anywhere near that back im just fed up of throwing money at it. Although I love the car and its so much fun to drive just isnt practial especaillly since im having to drive it back and for to work at the moment

no not another one!

tbh alex its hard to say how long any used turbo will last due to the age of them and the point that somethings spinning around 60,000rpm.
if you were planning on keeping the car then i would suggest buying a brand new one if you could afford it.
if your planning in selling it on then stick a s/h one in there (its luck of the draw how long they lasdt though)

breaking the car now youll end up with piles of stuff that does not sell that youll probably be giving away for peanuts so as said if i were you i would try get her all running properly and try flogging it as a good runner that way you have the best shot at clawing some of your money back.

you could always try selling the performance parts as a sort of trade for standard parts then get it running and sell? it looks stunning so would be a shame to strip it all down

as above - dont break it if you can help it !
looks mint in the picture - if funds are tight get a s/h turbo to keep it running and dont cane it!
It's worth way more to sell as a good runner - and in my opinion will be worth more in a few years to come when there are not many around !

At the end of the day I stripped It all down changed engine, turbo, clutch, suspension, all brakes, resprayed it and put it all back together again in less that 6 months working on it after work in the nights and its my first gtir so I should expect to run in to a few problem and this turbo thing is just one of those shit luck things. Think the best thing I can do is wack a s/h tubby on it for now because apart from the smoking the car runs so perfect its unreal and it took some fiddling to get it there too! Then get a nice DERV to drive around in as a daily until I can get enough cash together to buy a better turbo and forged bottom end with a nice ecu and then it should be strong as F**K and pretty quick too Very Happy. Its all ready suprised me by shaming a few cars I thought would leave me behind and its only running the 1bar set up at the moment.

Alex I have my old runabout still handy if you want it, 97 ford escort 1.3 edura-e, decent fuel economy, pretty much new brakes, decent tyres just gone 98k had it for just over year n half and done 2 services on it including wynns engine flush. Only bad part on it is where a previous owner decided to spray paint both rear doors and a small patch in middle of boot lid, I resprayed the drivers door and laquered it and it looks better but just havent got round to doing the other doors or boot lid. Asking £450 and can deliver to you if needed.

keep hold of it mate, i bought mine with a blown turbo and paid peanuts for it, so its worth fixing yourself, even if your gonna punt it on. and as bob says your good bits will sell fast but the rest wil sell pretty slowly as i'm sure most of us on here have a good supply of everyday bits to use up before buying more that you'll get next to nothing for for them.

There is a place in blckpool that just does balancing so you buy the replacement parts then put it together then send it to them they balance it and send it back job done

bob i worked for 2 years rebuilding lorry turbo i can balance them but you don,t always need to balance them up .. you can balance them up two ways one way is you balance the shaft up out side the core and mark it up where the nut on the shaft and wheel etc etc or you can balance it up in the core both the same there is no different.. if some one have got a knackered turbo ill will rebuild it and show how to balance the shaft up if the shaft or wheel is damage i have to take it in where i use to work and balance it up but i always take it in to get balance
