I bought these £25 5mm alloy spacers and just went out and removed my brake disc to get the spacers machined to fit.

I thought i'd try the spacer in the back of disc and to my surprise it fits like a glove no play but it needs a nats whisker of a taper on the outside to sit completely flat in the disc .

The stud holes are a perfect fit for the studs as i had removed
a stud to try and fits on the unthreaded shoulder great with only a whisker of play.

The centre bore needs opening up to the disc and the disc bore is the same size as the back lip of the flange. but you don't really have to machine the spacer bore out because the studs are a very good fit so you could just file it out.

So you could skim it with a grinder on the outside and file the inner without going to a machine shop or have the middle machined for abit more support.

I'm going for machining

I've got a stupid offset wheel so wouldn't make much difference, it already drives all over the place

Good find, makes things easier

Has anyone looked into trying to fit these brakes without a spacer behind the discs??

Anything that might upset the trueness of a discs seems like something I would rather do without.

Also noticed you have linked 5mm spacers. Is it not 4mm that is needed?

mc_hawkings24

I can't find 4mm spacers unless you had them made. 5mm is fine and have no problems

Have you actually tried this?

The measurements don't add up. The FTO/Evo Discs have a height/offset of 45mm and the Clio discs actually have less height/offset at 44mm, soo it would mean the FTO/Evo discs would need at least 5mm spacer to suit where the GtiR hubs mount the Carriers.....

The stock GtiR Discs sit at a height of 45mm which is similar to either. I don't see why spacing the disc is needed. Why not just shave the caliper carrier on the bolt mount and disc gap slightly to give clearance instead of all the hassle with spacers.

Sooo are you saying they are new perfect fit or they need machining???....

Ps 4mm is the needed spacer not 5mm, they will fit with 5 but only 4mm is needed to centralise the disc.

Don't quite know what you mean by the spacer will break up, they are not under any load just spacing the disc out and keeping it straight. Then clamped in place by the wheel.

But back on the subject that everyone seems to just ignore, why not just get the carrier machined to clear the disc??? Thus no spacers needed, less chance of disc warping/juder, ability to use small wheel spacers for wheel clearance and generally more of a fit and forget setup.

Its a cast spacer by the looks of it and you can't machine that and i wouldn't use a cast spacer because they are cheap uneven and break up and also 80-100nm a wheel nut is a load .
You can also machine the spacer i linked or not its up to you.
