A few updates on my problem, I've been a bit lazy and just left the car in the garage for a bit but finally decided to go check her out.

First off I had a quick look under the bonnet and under the car and can't see anything obvious a miss but still need to have a proper look.

I started the car, put it in gear and it felt fine.

Went for a drive and it was fine for a while until I tried to drop in to 2nd gear approaching a junction and it didn't want to go in 1st or 2nd. Managed to get 2nd but then it felt like it didn't want come out of gear, so I just drove home in 2nd.
Pulled up at home pushed it out of second, tried all gears and it was fine.

Then I tried to drive it again, reversed off the drive, went for 1st and I literally can't move the gear stick over to 1st and 2nd.

It selects 3rd, 4th, 5th and reverse fine and drive normal in those gears but I can't even move the gear stick to the left to even try to get 1st or 2nd.
When the engines running and you try to push the gear stick to the left you can hear a faint mechanical grinding sound.

I think it's safe to say something has gone seriously wrong in that box

Iv got the number for a guy in Nottingham that some one at work highly recommend to me, the guy stripped and rebuilt his box on his evo and said he did a great job! Iv not used him personally but like I say came highly recommended, I spoke to him and said it was around £120 to strip check and rebuild, that doesn't include any new parts needed though...you want the number?

It's defo worth checking the return spring on the gear selector. This returns the gear stick to the centre position. Ie if the gear selector doesn't spring back to neutral the spring has snapped.
I had this on mine & couldn't get first & the spring was broke.
If not it sounds like box out job...

Yes Pete I'll take that number please buddy.

I'm going to have a check over a few thing things but I'm 95% it's going to be the box itself that's at fault

Get the box out stick a release bearing in check clutch and fit a box which has been checked and happy motoring. I know its easier said than done and not cheap i just dont want you loosing faith in the car bill its a different but very nice car. I am a massive beliver in not using these cars is worse for problems than using them

Does sound like the box Bill hopefully you can get it sorted soon!

And time sat is definitely a killer, mine hasn't been used properly for over 2 years now and its suffering. Dusting those cobwebs off now and trying to get it sorted. MOT on Monday.

Yeah I would guess it's the box, it's been making noise for some time and I've been expecting an issue.

In all fairness the box has to come off regardless do I may aswell get my spare checked over and if need be reconditioned then I know I've got a good box. I've got a release bearing, I'll just have to inspect the clutch and hopefully I might get away with using the clutch again

As you say johnny, it's not going to be cheap and once it's done then I know I haven't got to worry about my box for a while

Yeah it isnt great its not as bad as sheep dip though thats some evil stuff.

I once tried to use a one man clutch bleed kit and connected it to a tyre for pressure and it blew up all over my face (didnt read the instructions stating you only need 15psi not a full tyre lol). Will teach me for standing there with my mouth open was not the nicest suprise in my mouth lol.

I only know as i farmed and all sorts gets on you. Dont knock it untill you tried it.

Brake fluid in eyes or mouth along with transmission fluid are 2 of the worse when working on cars

Yes that's me I did a few years ago went to college and all that but 15 hours a day 7 days a week (some times of the year) sitting on a tractor was enough suicide its one thing as a lorry driver actually driving somewhere but been in the same field for 4 days ploughing was enough to drive me mad. The sheep were fun until I slipped a disk in my back and have had sciatic problems for the last 3 years lol

also its a lot easier to make a lot more money sitting on your ass tapping at a computer so that's what I do now Very Happy
