That is about 5 hours of sanding

Started by going over it and removing any casting numbers etc with a grinder
Then a wire brush

Then 40 grit 250 , 400 , 600 , 800 , 1200 and a top sand with 2000 grit

Top job that mate,i done all this once and its a huge job to do.
If you buy a polishing mop on a drill and razz over it now it will come up great.

Sad really but its easy to get carried away with the polishing stuff,i was and proberly still am terrible for it.

Ended up doing the full inside and visible outside of plenum, top part of the runners inside, thermostat housing, top water pipe on head and the engine mount to a shinny finish Neutral

I am sure there are better ways I could of spent my time...maybe it was therapeutic Laughing

Have glass bead blasted alloy stuff and also sand blasted, both leave the surface a little porous and attract oily finger marks and if it gets wet will corrode if not cleaned off in time.
I think aqua blasting is ment to be good as its not quite so aggressive.

^ as above, alloy just finished with bead blasting is a pain due to porous surface, I found alkaline etching really good with a soft quality satin finish which wipes clean easily & resists corrosion well too.

What i did with mine was use a wire brush on a drill, then 160 sand paper to smooth it out a little, 400 grit to finish it off and i bought some silver engine spray paint from halfords, worked a treat. Quite easy to clean and looks okay too Smile
