While my heads off at the engineers having new guides fitted etc i thought id get a price for porting and polishing,
They came back with £580 affraid

So question are;
1. Is it worth it?
2. At almost 600 notes are they extracting urine from me?
3. Anyone know of a good place near Coventry?
Very Happy

If done right is worth the money depending on what you want from the car. On the other hand the money could be spent elsewhere to improve the car.

Not worth it for your spec build, money & effort better spent elsewhere or saved.
You would be best getting exhaust manifold ported & investing in a 2.75 or 3" turbo elbow as serious gains here & only set you back around £250, you could match/taper the head exhaust ports & gasket to manifold too, can do that yourself with palm grinder . Could even do the exhaust manifold yourself if fancy it .

^ just concentrate on the known weak point & things that troublesome do with engine/box back in.
Exhaust manifold & especially elbow make good gains for little outlay, having a crack at the exhaust manifold could be bit of fun too . I would suggest spending  funds also on decent clutch such as something from Competition Clutch such as CC stage3 segmented 8pad sprung or stage 4 6puk sprung if think you will do fair bit of track or play on drag strip, add a reinforced clutch fork if not got one already & new release bearing. Doing that keeps it strong & trouble free & very versatile for road or track & also handle more power easily should you want it .
drifting a bit from topic so sorry about that :-)

Would a tubular exhaust manifold have the same effect as a polished stock manifold?
I saw this on shitebay;

Everybody here will tell you that they're more trouble than they're worth. They flow and look lovely but welds crack after a while...

Yeah those exhausts manifolds are shit. Most of them crack some get away with it but sometimes they just dont see the crack! Absolute rubish. As Mr B said spend the money on the known restrictions i.e elbow and downpipe sorted and port mani yourself job done and a lot cheaper.

Keep things simple dude dont get going ott or you will struggle in the long run.

Standard manifolds are quite good & with a bit of porting quite usable for 400hp, decent tubular will be big money, cheap ones are junk. You can make the standard manifold look quite nice by dumping standard heat shield & wrapping it super neat in black/grey heat wrap, rob IW done this on his & looks real good .
Due to you having a quaife & engine will have good piston I think some time down the road you may want little more than 300hp so cover few things so a power increase to say 350-380 is minimal hassle ...

Yeah i like the idea of keeping it below 300 for long term reliability but knowing it's got the inner strength to boosted if things change in the future.

with what you got 380hp could be reliable if engine proves good & you get it mapped proper.
waste of a quaife & forged pistons at 300hp, i've run over 360hp on standard engines & gearbox without bother for years, most of the issues are big power on high mileage engines & gearboxes or ones built badly mixed with sensor faults, vac line issues, oil feed issues & bad mapping.
Makes sense start off round 300 range then once car proves itself & you feel need for some more just add a better turbo & electronics for a reliable, safe & easy 360/380ish .
