Im gonna sort out getting a shorter belt and remove the whole lot i think, does the aircon cause strain on the engine?

It doesn't put a strain on the engine just saps some of the power in use and maybe a tiny bit when not in use as its another pulley to turn. If you remove all of it, you save around 25-30kgs?

That's a rough guess. Majority of the weight is the air con pump and the thick metal mounting plate. Think there is also a part of it you can remove in the dash but haven't done this yet.

Yeah i see everyone remove the aircon but i kinda wanted to keep some of the creature comforts of the car, ill leave it be i think, another question, when i had the wheel off i noticed the my cv boot is split which i bought parts for but noticed the boot on the engine side is split whats that boot called? Inner cv boot?

Yea its the inner cv, and its abit of a pain in the arse to change and a very messy job the easy parts are taking the shaft out and putting it back in... unless you have a vice and all the tools to complete the job its a pain.

Got mine done at local garage I know well cost me a tenner each boot to take the shaft to them took them about 15-20 mins to do the swaps which might be the easier route.

Yup as above. I find changing cv boots an absolute pain aswell. They are one of things I get a shop to do. Saves me a lot frustration and hammer throwing Laughing Putting the driveshaft in/out is easy though.
