No worries mate.... i see its on about circlips being a weak point when your pushing the box ie on track or putting it through its paces above stock levels etc ....

Yeah but the box I've just broke has already had the circling mod

I won't know what the problem is till I pull her apart

I may even get gtir James on here to take a look as he's bloody good with gearboxes and knows a damned site more than I do plus he works for nissan

nah far from mastered it gaz theres still much room for improvement but need descent track rubber for sure as the tyres aren't up to it. not bad though seeing as its the first time ive really been on track where gremlins have stopped me driving the car as I like, not really done a proper trackday for a year now so still a bit rusty

well cars just been collected by the AA (with my spare gearbox) so no car for a while   
so will have to pull the tvr out the garage again for a bit but love driving that too as its so much fun especially in the wet lol

only 3 weeks till Germany so at least the box has gone now rather than whilst we are over there which would have been a royal pain

Wouldn't of been a pain you would of had to do what I did with the 205........leave it in a layby an forget you ever owned it lol

He can't babe, car won't fit on his lift and it needs to be programmed

Yeah car won't go on my 2 poster as the rams don't go back enough in other words the car is to wide.

If you swap the box on one of these you have to programme the box as it ties with the ecu.
Each box carries a reference number and you need to input this number into the ecu so it recognises the box. Basically it's not the actual gearbox it's the electronic solenoids which move the selector forks so the ecu needs to know the exact positioning of these or it will not select the gears properly

Oh right i saw pictures of the soleniods last night when i was looking .... its very complex .... is it beacause of the paddle shifts ???

Well kind of
The paddles send a signal to solenoids via ecu which moves them thus engaging the selectors I've already removed the electronic solenoid pack once before on the spare box I have and you need to lock the solenoids in position prior to removal, if you don't then the ecu does not know the solenoid positioning

It is a very very complex gearbox in more ways than one but would be good if I could learn the fundamentals of how they work and how to rebuild them as it's a very very expensive job if you have to pay for it.

I'm gonna hazard a guess and say the fault lies with a damaged 3rd 4th selector fork

Do you think they make them so complicated to deter people from doing them themselves so you have to run to nissan and dig deep into your pocket ...

Nah think it's just technology Leighton the new Audi r8 box is very similar with speed match gear selection along with a few others too.
You just have to move with the times and forever changing technology but it certainly isn't easy to learn especially to someone like me who really knows booger all about gearboxes so time to learn I think lol
