Hi guys, my R has this really weird think of dropping the rpm slightly when i want to rev it. It sort of stalls for a second and then revs up. I know i had some vacuum leaks which i have eliminated. Possible MAF fault?

I also had to bodge a piece of piping to go to the breather that sits under the intake mani. I think the piping is slightly too long and restricts air flow.

thanks!

Bones - ill leave the pipe to last because its under the intake and taking it out is not a fun job. Im geting some new vacuum lines tomorrow so will redo everything on the mani because alot of my vacuum lines were leaking. Last time i wanted to clean my MAF i red mixed reviews about the maf cleaner ;/ might try to unplug it or something first and see whats going on if it still stalls a little.

Nomad - i havent got a plug etc to check it ;/

No plug ? .... plug is in the fuse box cover in the dash ..... for cleaning the maf something like acetone .... carb cleaner ...or similar ...

As the man above says I use carb cleaner then a cleaner which you spray on electronics ie pcb's evaporates even better than carb cleaner leaves the sensor as new

I used some servisol electronic contact cleaner I had lying around, i figured it would be better touse than carb cleaner etc. I can't see why the expensive MAF cleaners out there are worth paying all that extra money for? Surely contact cleaner will do the job just as well.

check process is easy! check the forum, but a pieace of metal wire or a paper clip is sufficient to a fault code check Mike

Last time i went to my local car parts shop and ive asked about MAF cleaner the bloke just looked at me very weird and said that they dont do this because it breaks the MAF. I ended up cleaning my MAF with a electric contact cleaner Smile Ill do it again some time soon and see what happens

I think that we're on about different things. Do you mean the connector on the car that you plug laptops into etc?

Yes mate the kind of obd where you just bridge the two pins to put it in to fault code check mode ....

No mate its located where the fuse box is in the car if you look under the fusbox itself you will see a grey plug use a paperclip or small piece of wire to bridge the two pins .. this will put it into check mode .... look at the instrument cluster it will start flashing count the flashes ie 5 flashes thn pause 5 flashes will give you the code 55 wich means everything is ok ...

No worries mate ... its worth a go if you have any faults it logs them so if its playing about its worth a go as it costs nothing also if it has faults stored then note them down then clear them as per guide take it for a run then re do fault check see if they come back up ...
