A bit of an update on J2NME, over the past month we've been sorting fuelling problems out. I explained that the car was a bit of a mess when I bought it and I'm in the process of getting it back in A1 condition. The car was running quite rich, and for my own piece of mind the top motec management man who's a friend of mine was called upon to check the mapping. As presumed it was wrong, but safe enough to run on the road. Surprisingly the original works DENSO injectors were still in place and after a flow and pressure test were found to be bleeding and not spraying properly. The two fuel pumps were not supplying the required 10 bar of pressure to charge the fuel rail at 3 bar minimum, also the two lift pumps in the bottom of the fuel tank were knackered. One was totally useless, the other half working. So, two new WRC fiesta high pressure fuel pumps from M Sport, new fuel rail regulator, new return fuel pipe from regulator back to swirl pot and tank, fuel tank taken out, cleaned, new lift pumps, socks, new injectors and some TLC from professional rally mechanics later we were ready for a re map. Again, The motec man cometh and everything was awesome up to full boost and 7000 RPM in 3rd gear, but was found still running too lean in 4th, 5th and 6th gear even with maximum fuelling and maximum injector opening duration. The new 400cc injectors were too small!! Anyway, these were taken out and we now have 4 new 500cc injectors ready to fit and map again then hopefully we'll be rockin.,.. Old rally cars.... Why do I do it I ask myself lads?? !! This is what happens though when original works cars fall into the hands of people with no knowledge whatsoever of WRC cars of this nature. Built by professionals, driven by professionals, maintained and serviced by professionals all at massive cost. Unfortunately, if you don't have the funds or expertise to fault find then maintain these cars it can become a nightmare. I'm fortunate and enthusiastic enough to do the job as NME would have done it and am quite enjoying putting my mark on the car and getting it back to "as new" works condition for the public to see again and enjoy. Sorry to waffle on a bit but you did ask to be kept updated!! Thanks lads. B
