I'd love to see more pics of underneath this car

The underside of the GTi-R is fully enclosed with the Kevlar sump guard at front to in line with the bulkhead underneath, and the remaining underneath from bulkhead line to rear diff also enclosed with protection guards. However I'll get them removed and a few pics taken next time she's on a ramp. B

It would be good to see the full suspension setup as that's where this car will stand out most from the normal gtirs,

yep there really is very little in comparison to a stock car that's been modified

you just cant make any comparison from a normal gtir to the grp a nme car as there are so many differences its unreal with regard to suspension set up.

if you adjusted a normal modded gtir with coilies etc and run the same suspension settings as nme car it will handle like a bag of shite. that's speaking from experience as ive tried it.
ive actually got a photo of my car at brands coming out of druids (so a hard right bend) so front left is loaded, but its actually lifted the front right so you can see air beneath the tyre and track.
so in theory its dragging the opposite wheel with too much camber and castor.

gone back to a far better setting now like my first pulsar which handled better than any other pulsar ive driven.
the only other car ive drove that had fantastic handling was 'fast guys' car on the modifiers, that was lovely and I would have liked to have got that car on track to see what it could really do, its a pity he only uses it for drag racing.

Hello lads it's been a while,,, apologies.. I'd love to take the Nissan to rally day at castle Combe, our group (slowly sideways uk) also have a block entry for our cars and to run on the track (group B, group a, WRC and other stuff that we all own between us and display at events ) and everyone wants to see the 106 maxi run. So, I 'll probably end up bringing that but wether I attend will depend on my son who is supposed to be rallying that weekend himself so I'll have to let you know a bit nearer the time. Our parts guru bob messaged me this morning regarding bringing J2 NME for display on your stand so I have yet to reply to him APOLOGIES BOB!! Brian

Hi bob yes I just got it. If I can make rally day I will. I've been a few years ago, back in 2004 if I remember correct. It was a great event. An Audi Quattro works car went into the tyres on the wet track... Are there any other NME cars going on display ?? B

A bit of an update on J2NME, over the past month we've been sorting fuelling problems out. I explained that the car was a bit of a mess when I bought it and I'm in the process of getting it back in A1 condition. The car was running quite rich, and for my own piece of mind the top motec management man who's a friend of mine was called upon to check the mapping. As presumed it was wrong, but safe enough to run on the road. Surprisingly the original works DENSO injectors were still in place and after a flow and pressure test were found to be bleeding and not spraying properly. The two fuel pumps were not supplying the required 10 bar of pressure to charge the fuel rail at 3 bar minimum, also the two lift pumps in the bottom of the fuel tank were knackered. One was totally useless, the other half working. So, two new WRC fiesta high pressure fuel pumps from M Sport, new fuel rail regulator, new return fuel pipe from regulator back to swirl pot and tank, fuel tank taken out, cleaned, new lift pumps, socks, new injectors and some TLC from professional rally mechanics later we were ready for a re map. Again, The motec man cometh and everything was awesome up to full boost and 7000 RPM in 3rd gear, but was found still running too lean in 4th, 5th and 6th gear even with maximum fuelling and maximum injector opening duration. The new 400cc injectors were too small!! Anyway, these were taken out and we now have 4 new 500cc injectors ready to fit and map again then hopefully we'll be rockin.,.. Old rally cars.... Why do I do it I ask myself lads?? !! This is what happens though when original works cars fall into the hands of people with no knowledge whatsoever of WRC cars of this nature. Built by professionals, driven by professionals, maintained and serviced by professionals all at massive cost. Unfortunately, if you don't have the funds or expertise to fault find then maintain these cars it can become a nightmare. I'm fortunate and enthusiastic enough to do the job as NME would have done it and am quite enjoying putting my mark on the car and getting it back to "as new" works condition for the public to see again and enjoy. Sorry to waffle on a bit but you did ask to be kept updated!! Thanks lads. B

i think you hit the nail on the head there, rally nuts (the public) really do want to see these cars. The best cars built by the best mechanics and engineers................ very special

Thanks for the update Brian. I would have thought they had bigger injectors than 400 from factory.

Hows the 6 speed feel ?

Not sure but they may run a 34mm restrictor on the turbo and if so wouldn't need large injectors

Once again not really sure but I was talking to tony Brady couple weeks ago and believe it's a stock item he's running

Sure Brian could explain much more as just a calculated guess as the one I had was a group n car downgraded from group A
That ran a stock t28 with 34mm restrictor which I still have somewhere lol

If I remember they have a smaller compressor housing or a modified one

Surely modified. Couldnt be more restricted than the standard ra model t28?

This is the thing when it comes to a rally car it's a different set up to a road car you are all low down on a rally car they ain't built to do 150 etc i can still picture the housing was smaller for a quicker spool up

Hello lads, sorry for the delay in replying again.. The 6 speed dog box is great. it was sorted after we got the car, together with the diffs and transfer case. Bit of a nightmare however draining the oil pressure and oil from the transfer case and rear diff as they are both fully active with their own ECU inside the car, oil pumps and filter system. Same hydraulic and electronic ATESSA 4WD system used in the skyline touring car from early 1990. This is all controlled from the dash on a series of LED tipped switches and dial knobs where the centre and rear diffs can be "tuned in" to your preference as the driver. Also has an "auto" setting where the ECU controls everything but this is lethal unless you're Tommi Makkinen or David Llewelyn.!! The front diff is a heavy duty plated type and the gearbox has its own oil lubrication circuit complete with pump (inside nearside wing), two filters and cooler (inside o/s inner wing). The separate reverse gear lever is a great idea but when in a rush having to select neutral first, then pull the reverse lever, then push it forward then select first gear all with the clutch depressed can get a bit busy.! The turbo on my car is a billet type with ceramic bearings and stronger internals. Quite a small unit really but is for a quick spool up for awesome bottom end pull and mid range torque. I bet the car won't do more than 110/120 mph top end as its geared to get there quick. Exhaust is full 5" titanium system with no silencers straight through to the rear. Tony Bardy - what a legend. One of life's gentlemen. Very helpful and immensely knowledgeable on these cars. He and my mechanic used to maintain
J4 NME in Spain for a privateer after the car left the NME team and factory in Didcot. This car was rolled into a ball unfortunately and no longer with us. For sure Tony and Pete are the only two blokes in the UK that know how to maintain these cars. there were only 6 built and 4 spare shells. The safari cars from 1991 were different spec totally and didn't come home after the rally. David Llewelyn's was written off in a road traffic accident on the event and he had to leave sharpish I was told! Some NME technicians are still around - one at Red Bull, one at Prodrive, plus other motorsport teams but they've moved on and memories fail in time !! I do however know the team principle from NME in 1991, Charles Reynolds. Another gentleman. Finally, when the flow test was done on the old DENSO works injectors, this was calculated wrong due to them bleeding. We now have proper 500cc plus injectors ready for installation. We should be Rockin' then after another mapping session with Mr Lee Penn the Motec Guru. Thanks for the interest and your kind comments. much appreciated.
