Whats the bennifits of removing the oe oil separator on the right hand side of the head?

Ive seen a few people remove it & put a strait piece of pipe there... Is it just to make it look tidyer or can removing it cause issues?

I know Bobs old engine has this done but just want to check if that's because of a certain setup?

that was an old pic gaz, the later car had it fitted back because tbh it can cause you more probs than its worth as the metal pipe to it has a restriction so by removing it and the separator you could end up filling your aftermarket catch can up fairly quickly as the pipe and separator act as a restriction to oil coming back up from the sump as there will be some pressure in there and if the pipes a larger bore the pressure could be greater than that from the rocker cover which pushes the gases / mist droplets back up to the catchcan
hense it will fill much quicker especially on a track and driven hard

What part of the metal pipe has the restrictor on it bob are you on about the section that runs paralel to the rocker cover or the oe catch can itself ?

short metal pipe that feeds to catch can separator, if you take it off & look you can see the restriction hole as it surprisingly big restriction.
Restriction & separator does a good job, best thing for it is a nice clean up & refinishing if looking scruffy.

Thats alright then ive left that bit plumbed in so if this pipe is left in would it still not be advisable to remove the oe catch can if you have  an aftermarket catch can fitted ????

I put mine back in leighton as well as a separate catchcan as couldn't see the point in removing it plus the car never had any probs with oil filtering back with it in but then again I only really used it on track, for road use cant see a prob with removing it and keeping the restrictor pipe
