Helix 4 paddle clutch

Can anyone remember what the Helix 4 paddle clutch was rated to in lbft?

I heard that Helix stopped making these clutches for the GTiR, But just spoke to Helix on the phone & they said "theyve never stopped making them" They just make them to order now, not on the shelf

I'm thinking of buying one, & they said the torque rating is 360 (lbft)... Is that right or did the Helix 4 paddle clutch everyone raved about have a higher (lbft) rating?

That's assuming that you use they're cover as well.

76-0000 is 4 paddle.

Ive got a rps streetmax cover so plenty of clamping force with that lol

do you really need a 4puk as if on street 6puk more drivable and a CC 6puk good buy, they do a nice 4puk as well .
Helix use to do 2 covers 1 being a HD cover but they don't offer that any more .

Sounds funny but ive got a AP 4 paddle in at the min with rps cover & its done me well & took a beating for 3 years. its heavy with the rps cover but not to bad with bite, but I'm used to it now & as sad as it sounds I like it as I'm used to it over the past 3 years & just makes the car feel abit more racey & also prefere the feedback a paddle gives you at high revs on a spirreted drive... Maybe I'm just odd

I'm only replacing as its snapped a spring in the pressure plate, shame as I cant fault it tbh but ap are only good for 284lbft otherwise id buy another!

CC ive heard mixed reviews about on evo & Subaru forums being good but also alot failing under 1000 miles, plus all videos about them ive seen on youtube are about them failing so kind of puts me off a little

Helix said they still make the 4 paddle clutch for the gtir to order & takes 15-20 working days & rated to 360lbft.

I know helix are good for a 350-400 bhp car, so think ill get the 4 paddle off them & keep my RPS cover as that's got more than enough clamping force lol, save abit of money then if I don't need the helix cover.

I have a Ap cover and helix 6puk sprung. Wasn't to bad but i got it slipping couple of times(proper spikes on ice) so got a Os giken now.

How long did you have the helix in for?

We have one here for a customers engine build were doing so fitting the Helix 4 puk.

I know that they will 100% hold over 420lbft otherwise i would not fit it as the car will be running in excess of 460bhp

Well that's confirmed that then Ill buy the Helix 4 paddle & keep my RPS cover to keep cost down

I had an organic helix and hd cover for few years and it was good beyond rated power handling, prices better back then too. The friction plate was what they done best as covers were daikin .
I've not had problems or seen many issues with CC but indeed some do, 4wd and 400hp hard on a clutch lol . Seems helix in your home country and it your preferred choice and opinion on them high it good choice, would be a 6puk for me though as hate 4puks if mainly road use .

Yep minds made up lol & think its coz I'm used to paddles, so personal prefferance lol...

Helix for me did well but wore down fast there is a place at Darlington that re dose the friction material onto them. Someone told me that is all a helix is anyways ?

Anyone had any experience with ACT clutch? I see the EVO boys rate them?

Trouble with clutches like this is so much usage differs it hard use internet opinion to judge the product.
Ones that held up for me and other cars I dealt with been helix and CC, superclutch been awful products in clutch and hydraulic releases, ACT hub failed on my evo and seen few others same too, CC seem better from my experience and design preferences .
Always going here good and bad tales as clutches get poorly chosen to application, spanked silly and installed poorly so varying results not always the clutch fault entirely .

What issue you got with your AP 4puk, is it slipping ! main issue with 4puk cerametallics and road use is the slipping from road driving creates too much glaze on pads, puk clutches pretty short service life generally and leave less serviceable parts at replacement time . 6puk sprung technically better match to daily type road use .
Helix quality always seemed pretty good and can't recall much or any major negatives from people besides recent prices .
Sometimes you best sticking with what pretty well known to work and your first choice and preferences .

CC clutches ive had bad experience with on a customers car on here.
He purchased a 6 puk from Conceptua a while back, car was running around 440bhp from memory and he thought the par gearbox we built was making a not very nice noise few weeks after he got the car back.
So we took the car back in to check only to find it was infact the clutch drive plate discintigrating after not much mileage covered.
Still under warranty with Conceptua who provided it i advised him to give them a call (as he purchased it) only to be told that he would not get a refund due to car being modified

Yet they state its for competition use and rated to whatever the figure was

In the finish i contacted them myself and demanded that they replaced it, the item was faulty all the spring section had broken up! However had to threaten them with no longer trading with them and no longer recommending them for parts etc before they eventually agreed to send a replacement......So dont know whether its Conceptua tuning or CC clutches at fault but warranty is not worth the paper its written on

But as B said.......A lot of clutch failiures are down to poor fitting which will massively weaken the driveplate centre if left hanging from gearbox input shaft as the Pulsar does not run a spigot bearing so all that weight is literally left hanging on the clutch plate centre which funnily enough they dont seem to like lol

A spring in the centre plate has snapped from what I can make out, not got box off yet...

Ive read up on the ACT 4 paddle & the evo & subaru lads seem to swear by them? Plus there £150 cheaper than the Helix.

get the 6 puk Act clutch its much better.......Needs to be sprung one though as the unsprung version are only good if your running a straight cut dogbox, they put a lot of stress on gearset

Yep I would deffo go 6puk and sprung hub is absolute must .
In reality CC ACT probably about same, I prefer the 6 spring hub of CC for road application, I had more luck with CC but know other haven't, way I abusing act on drag got to expect failures and way some people fit them induce issues .
I quite like helix products but prices are crazy and more so if not in the UK .

What will the difference be in the 6 & 4 puk?... Ive had a 6 puk & it was more snappyer...

Don't forget ill be using my RPS cover plate.

6puk is bit less snatchy/more slippable and generally last bit better on street use.
exact result you get depends on pad composition and the cover clamp load rating .

Hmm my 6 puk was more snappyer than this AP 4 puk ive got now...

Not doing it till nearer summer so plenty of time to choose, but atleast I know oppinions now & Helix & ACT are looking favourats, So thanks guys

Ok thanks Rick... when I spoke to them on the phone, they said they don't sell direct & I have to buy of a main dealer... So I don't know if they will let you have one off them direct? But ill let you know, thanks pal
