Hi , all i'm wanting to make my R a bit stronger and rigid but without adding to much weight, so i dont really want a full cage so i want to just fabricate some strenghtening beams for certain places. Where would be best? Ive got front and rear strut braces i thought of maybe another bar across where the rear seats were and seam welding the strut turrets, anyone else have any suggestions?

Thanks

Rich

What was the one behind the seats did it just go between both sides of the car or was it right up to the roof?

The do luck behind the seats just goes from one side of the car up n over the tunnel and to the other side of the car.
It dosnt go over the roof.
You could seam weld the engine bay if you was up for removing the engine etc.
Uprated arb's and poly pushes would help and you can get a brace for the front that braces between the wishbones.

I personally think you can stiffen a car too much making it very skittish for road use!
You want/need some body movement as road surfaces and camber differ...

Yeah thats what i did with my old xr3i mk4 polybushed everything strut braced front and back then slammed it on its arse then everytime you put your foot down and bomb along the road it would hit a tiny bump in the road and skip about all over tue place so i agree you can do to much Razz

Motors already out so might seem weld the bay, i might go for the up rated arb's, like you said i dont want it to stiff or to hard ive got it on meister r coilovers which made a big difference to stiffness but its not too rough either.

totally gree with wht stu has said
when you stiffen the thing too much youll find very littl feedback to the steering wheel untill the cars on the edge of breaking away and losing grip altogether.
a bit of bodyrwist is a good thing especially for road use, and i recently found i was quicker on track without having a too rigid car which quite surprised me

Which would everyone say is a better up grade the arbs or all the bushes wont do both so it leaves abit of movement still Smile

personally rich i would definatelydo the bushes and uprate the rear arb to a whiteline or similar.
the front arb is actually thicker than the whiteline upgrade, so you need to think ''is it too thick''
best way to try this is by removing it all together and try the car out on an empty carpark, if you find it handles better then buy the narrower whiteline front one or leave it off all together as some are doing on hill climbs and sprints etc

I thought it would of made the car a bit skittish if the arb was off all together? Il try it anyway when the motors back in thanks Smile

People used to say removing the front arb helped. Supposed to of took some of the under steer away.
So they say lol
