This weekend something happened, something that's never really happened before with myself and my R.
I'll start first by talking about Friday, so I had the day booked off on Friday to get my car mapped, not by dwr at chesterfield as the useless wan@#er had me booked in for a month for mapping on the dyno and the night before text me to say he realised he no longer had the old laptop with a 25 pin port to map it,he said he was going to try and sort it but basically just started ignoring me (very professional), I took it to a place near me, they build and race rally cars and are a specialist in gems ecu's and the guy who mapped it has been doing it for around 30 years. They started by checking the bores with a bore scope and a quick boost leak test ( something some one else should have done and saved me a lot of money and time).
I drove the car (as I said I won't let any one else drive it) and we set off and did some runs, after around 4 and a half hours I now have a car that is totally different,it pulls like a train,is smoother and much more responsive. I'm very VERY happy with how it is now. I'm curious to know what power it's at so will get it on the rollers in the future.
So, Saturday. I set off at 6 am and met Ricky and his partner and kids and convoyed down to spring action day where we met up with Mike Gaz Andrew and the others, I had an absolutely fantastic day and the car got plenty of attention,I then got in it and drove it home 150 miles, calling in at a car meet at burton then thrashing my mate in his vxr and some randomer in a supra (cheesy smile )
For the last 10 miles back to the garage on the country back roads I thrashed it, I really gave it some hammer, I missed a gear and it crunched a little....but that's all it did, it didn't smash into a thousand little pieces like usual it just crunched.
I put it in the garage and parked it up after it's 350 ish mile trip.
So what happened that's never really happened before? I absolutely loved driving it,and it didn't break.....that 1 hot sunny day has made the last 3 years of constant shit and disappointment worth it...well worth it!
I thought I'd put this up and share it as usually it's posts with problems from myself.
Oh and the box has now done just over 1000 miles that Neil built and feels fantastic......so there you go
