Bendix drive

Wondered if anyone had any ideas of where i could get a starter motor bendix drive from?

The only ones i can find are international and they work out at almost £30 delivered.

I have stripped my starter motor completely and cleaned it up. Put new bushes into it and it wangs over and starts but its slow and after a few starts it wont turn over.
Ive had a new yuasa battery so its not the battery. All earths are good.
So it can only be the bendix drive that needs replacing now. ?
I have ordered a new solenoid but that only throws the bendix drive in so cant see it being that. But thought while i was doing the other things i mayaswel change it too.

Loiks like it is solenoid issue. Put battery on charge to make sure.
Put it back on the car and tried to start it and its just clicking..

Many times if not throwing engagement it down to the shifter fork & related component movement sticking or worn, drive pinion fully engaged in ring gear & power switching to motor through solenoid is in sync so if drive pinion not fully traveling the solenoid doesn't travel enough to engage power contacts.
If was engaging & turning slow sound likely linked to brush contact on commutator or similar which would make it wheezy in operation .
Can you juggle parts between two you got & get one working ?

I took them apart and swapped parts and it just clicked i have just taken one apart again and am about to take the other off the car again and compare parts to see if any are worn.

Just swapped solenoids and still the same.
Put the old starter back in and it turns over and starts so it has to be the new bushes. I think maybe they are to long because its quite resistant when turning it by hand.
I had also damaged 2 of the when installing it so i have just rubbed them down 2mm and will give that a try when the new solenoid comes.
Feel like bodget stu atm
Ordered what i thought was a new starter motor only to be sent an email after purchase saying they wanted a further £50 surcharge for my old starter motor and they would return the £50 after they had inspected my starter for damage etc.
So i had a refund.
Im not paying £200+ for one lol

Brushes and commutator are fussy and need be perfect contact, commutator wear can mean brush head contact poor .
Bit of adjustment may get you sorted, and once working the brushes will wear into commutator contour with use .
Expensive things new . Starter and Alternator Co use do sensible priced - no exchange required .

I have ordered another set of bushes too so when it all comes i will rebuild one and see how it goes.
I have my push bike for transport at the moment haha

Did you give the armature, housing, magnets a good clean using solvents? I'm wating for my brushes to turn up.
Don't fancy another burnt out commutator

Solenoid turned up and fit. Starter woukdnt even make a noise..
So took it out again. About 8 times now ffs
Put originl solenoid on and it was working as was. So new one is fucked..
Notices the earth strap was fraid on starter motor so cut it and put a new connector on. Car started on point every time and fast turn over

Noni removed them and used a rag to clean them.

Well if you do do it again use petrol and an air line and clean out all the carbon deposits. Carbon build up can cause shorting out if it gets in the grooves of the commututator. My dead starters caked in carbon. Shame it died
