Car didn't sell

Well had a bloke very interested in my car from Belgium and he drove all the way to my house and spent a good hour checking the car over and was really happy with it but when I got the paperwork out it only states on the log book 1998 as when it was registered here in the UK and I have no way of showing the jap registration year which is 1991 and in Belgium if the cars not 25 years old it's not allowed. Vin number is rnn14 000728 so it's an early one I think but how can I prove when it was registered in japan

UK V5 will state cars age.
Normally Jap auction sheet & import forms will have age of car too.
Question really is what paperwork does Belgium accept for importation .

That's really surprising, I would have thought there would have been alot of circumstances where a owner wouldn't have the original import papers. Surely there is another way to prove....

V5 only says when it was registered here.don't have jap papers

It was 60 euro tax if cat was 25 or 1200 if not so you can't blame him not taking the risk and that's each year

V5 and registration your car given relates to it japanese registration year not when imported .
Question is do Belgium accept the UK DVLA registration plate & V5 as acceptable proof.
Do you have any auction sheets from japan ?

If done quickly while still part of EU I would of thought it quite simple & UK V5 more than acceptable evidence .

My v5 says date of 1st registration 1998. Obviously they didn't make them then and I don't have auction papers or anything

Yes that because that when it first registered with DVLA but you don't have a 1998 R or S reg plate do you !?
V5 always did have 2 registration date boxes, one being 'date of first registration' second being 'date of first registration in UK'
If current new type V5 not have this you would need to contact them for a vehicle data evidence letter.
When apply for V5 with DVLA originally they also want proof of age and this is either registration docs from japan or letter from Nissan or Official import related docs.
With that evidence DVLA then ages your car, due to fact you all just about :-) EU members it should be easy import to Belgium using DVLA data I would of thought !
DVLA records will verify their approved age of vehicle & good chance that enough for Belgium import rules perhaps !

So what reg letter your car ?
does V5 have two registration date sections ? at least will have reg Number (MOT should have vehicle age !?)
You would have call DVLA if want more details & see what they can provide

Ring them or e mail them and as b says your not running a 98 plate car

Just had another look at the log book and there are 2 dates one says date of registration 1/11/1998 2nd says date of first registered in the uk 1/11/1998

Sounds like another Dvla fook up to me

DVLA filled your V5 wrong, the first registration date should relate to information they had to license your car as a 1990 H reg .
Possibly calling can get this corrected & new V5 issued ...

I have a full Hpi i can give to your for that car mate if it helps.
The year of manufacture on the hpi should get your sale.Then you can give me some commission.

Got contacts in trade mate.

Right just had a email back from dvla saying to highlight the error and tell them the correct date. How can I find this? You'd think they had the bloody info

That would have helped but think I'll need a full datext to put on dvla form

Big thank you to dvla for loosing me several thousand pounds and a bloke traveling from Belgium for no outcome, felt bad for the bloke

You should have posted on the forums when he was there. Could have got you this hpi and he would have been happy with it.
