Hi all
I was wondering if anyone could tell me if oil pressure sensor signal is + or earth?
I'm replacing my gauges and I'm wondering if can use signal from aftermarket sensor for my oil warning light. Sensor which I've got is a two pin and operates on earth signal.

I could be wrong on this mate but the oil warning light on the dash uses a switch sensor, basically open/closed based on oil pressure X. Not sure it will work with that sensor?

Well on gtir I know only of one pressure sensor/switch one one oil filter housing which looks like controls gauge and light. So if im right once it'll reach certain pressure it switches the light off so I'm hoping that this aftermarket one could do the same thing(just wire it to cars loom too)...
If there is another switch just for light it's happy days for me but I've got two engines on the floor and I can't find anything else...

Sorry mate, did some searching the larger sensor on the block is used for both the oil pressure gauge and the warning light on the dash. I forget the other is oil temp. Back to your original question Smile

Yeah the standard gtir sensor is 2 within 1 . If going after market just make up an adaptor so can have a second sensor/swotch and use a standard compact oil pressure switch from other vehicle fitment, you can reuse original but it bulky plus you can select switching oil pressure on new sensor making it respond early to pressure issue . The switching for dash light from oil pressure switch sensor is ground .
If you lucky and have new electric gauge with programmable warning light function you can use them to control dash light directly if earth switching or via a relay if power switching ...

Thanks for info guys. Sensor I've got has two pins one for gauge and the other one suppose to connect to earth

I've had a quick look online and apparently one with wk on it goes to oil pressure light (you can buy sensor separate). I guess it'll be try it out an see how it works (or like always not) since there is not much room I'd be over the moon if it would do both things with one sensor.

That a vdo sensor. Should in theory operate the warning light on wk pin but no idea what pressure value they set the switch at, is indeed good to wrap up both within 1 sensor .... job jobbed hopefully...

Any idea why instructions say to plug wk in to earth?

No sure, all I know on those is G is for gauge and WK is for warning kontact (German) . Should work fine . Fit it and test with multimeter before wiring, I think WK switches earth on those at around 0.5bar ...

Instructions I've got matches top pic so if I understand correctly that's without using warning light.
I'll have play and see how it goes but it looks like I might be lucky this time.

Yeah it looks same vdo sensor (they quite big) and pin style and markings same .
Should be easy fitting and wiring.
I was lucky fitting fitting 2 sensors, 1 for pressure and 1 for warning as pressure sensor supplied with gauge was quite compact so a second small oil switch sensor was easy mount neatly on home made 1 to 2 port adaptor.
Only advantage with separate sensors is it bit more error proof. Mechanical oil pressure also good option for reliable oil pressure although these days a good electrical gauge well fitted is not far off in reliability and reading accuracy .
Anything better than the original old gauges and money well spent .

Totally agree ^ I've always preferred the mechincal gauges but for those choosing aftermarket ecu's now that technology has advanced so much, it's much safer running all the sensor through the ecu and setting up tolerances and safe guards in event your car has explosive diarrhoea.

^ good point that woody, much simplifies wiring too, you can take data from the Nissan scan port to displays, I use to use an old iPAQ wm2003 phone with ecutalk software to display gauges much like torque app bit that was long time ago before android and iOS was born. ECU talk done a LCD display too, bit basic by today's standards but still useful when on standard ecu .

Is ECU talk still around? I remember having one back in the day on my N14, was pretty cool but as you said abit basic now.

Website still lists display but unsure if actually still supplying them or if ordering will complete online.
Better option is probably the BT interface with android display or small w10 tablet .
