Since I have owned my car. Even when I first had it in 2009 I have had to put a small piece of cloth (women's tights) over the maf between the maf and the hard pipe.
If I remove it the idle on my car is shit and it stalls :/
Anyone have an idea why this is?
I'm guessing I need to buy another hard pipe that has better bends in it?

possibly hard pipe or filter & adapter creating turbulence so rmaf reading is wacky.
You could do a test with maf plumbed to bypass the pipe & even the turbo to see effects on idle, also look at filter & adapter effect too. You can get honey comb plates to help smooth the flow. Some people have had real issue with mafs & turbulence while others on almost identical intake setup have none.

I have seen this issue many times Stu, its well known in the toyota schene too, its called fettish-maf. Your afm develops a real lust for womans tights which is only resolved with the touch of such ladys leg ware. In order to resolve this issue you will need to pin open its opening and make it watch a movie of disturbing things so it snaps out of it. Much like the cure on clockwork orange. Thus creating a perfectly working afm.

If this doesnt work then I suspect its your hard pipe setup Laughing

Thanks for the reply mate.
My brother did mention turbulence but I thought that was while driving and not on idle.
I will try another hard pipe one of the days.
I have tried a different afm and its the same..

That thing with mafs is they can measure very finely even at low flow volumes which good in some respects but also makes them prone to turbulence & other glitches such as dirt.
prefer decent map sensor on turbo cars myself so if you stumble on a wad of cash grab a Link ecu & a map sensor lol .

You need x2 45 stu to make 90 but a single 90 don't work the same it's the flow over the 2 45s and stops back flow pressure

Strange on idle Tho
