Someone just posted this link on facebook.
Looks like a decent item has been developed Smile
If I have any more issues I think I 'll go with one of these. http://www.garage7.com.au/home/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=2873&category_id=596&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=53
Whats everyone's thoughts?

We use these on all our diesel engines but call them damper pulleys,
2 huge discs seperated by silicon,
Same thing, they reduce and smooth out torque spikes from engine firing and/or engine order resonances making everything on the otherside of the crank last longer by not shaking itself to death.
If its been developed and 'tuned' properly then it certainly wont do any harm, biggest benefit would be the gearbox lasting a lot longer,
Happy days Very Happy

Great insight there.
I had heard the alloy ones were no good because of the vibrations through the crank.
Hadn't realised it affected the gearbox also.
Shame the price of these ones are so high lol

torsional load on crank causes harmonic frequencies (bit like a tuning fork) at certain rpm points this can resonate which can become very destructive so the rubber in the damper pulley helps absorb this vibration & disperses it as heat.
Lot of people went crazy on the cheap & pretty but junk solid alloy pulleys, many had issues with oil leaks either due to poor tolerance or rapid wear on contact point of seal lip as no hard sleeve was fitted & the alloy was low grade .
This maybe good quality product but new oem harmonic damper is 140USD (100gbp) you can check & improve timing marks on oem pulley while doing a rebuild . most people doing a rebuild would be wise fitting new damper pulley if one they got looks to be 20+ years old .

Mr B, Are you saying current crank pulleys are a damper type too?

Yeh could be worth asking bebb if could get  2 or 3 if people interested.
Also ask Erics in US as was doing them well under 100gbp (think was around 85gbp)

This is exactully what we need even if it's 5 people. I trying to get my mates to click onto this sort of thing we all buy sets of tyres one or two sets a year I buy a set week later someone else dose am like if we were buying 8 tyres instead of 4 plus my mams car was due two suddenly were buying 10 tyres so some discount must be availible
