Hi,

Just incase anyone is interested, the long bolt thats a arse to remove from rear hub, checked with Nissan today to how much a new one is:

Bolt 55166-60Y00 Alt/No 55166-60Y0A - £10.12 ea Sec: 431

And the bolt for front lower arm, the one that goes through lower arm bush and chassis leg:

Bolt 54368-50Y10 Alt/No 54368-50Y11 - £7.52 ea Sec: 401

Get same problem on loads of lateral link hub bolts on many cars, had same issue on my mazda 323B6T & that was total f00ker & cut both ends & hub was soaked in penetrating oil for several days then left in a press over weekend before budged :-S
subaru have same issue too lol

Blimey Mr B, think I got off lightly really! think I used a 1.5m breaker bar and just kept moderate pressure applyied and slowly worked it. Mate sand blasted the bolts at work, I reapplied the zinc finish looks like new again, but for the sake of a few quid might buy new..

My mazda would not budge with heat, airgun, breaker bars etc, was seized super solid in all fittings of bushes & hub, both sides same too :-( mazda bolts 2.5x price of nissan & with lateral bushes worked out an expensive for what it was.
Done a few subaru with same sort of issues. we not alone, bit like rear arches as the classic impreza has worse arch rear quarter issues than the R lol

What causes the rot problems on the R? After replacing arches and other panels, ive seam sealed everything, especially round the fuel filler hole, looked like the two skins had started to seperate, prob main reason why my arch rotted..

Its the rust fairy ...... i think as johnny said its rain and mud and crap off the road sticks up inside the arch creates damp and the aids it to start the process...

Is it a design flaw? my arch went directly below fuel filler, when inspecting the fuel filler bit and seeing the two panels seperating water was obviously getting in and becoming trapped inside the arch..

I took mine out the other day and it was easy??? covered it in WD40 the day before. Went back the following day, removed the nut, hit the bolt with a mallet and it came out, then got a ratchet extension and put it through the hub so I could continue hitting it out. Maybe i was lucky!

if been in there 20+ years unlikely come out easy and even more so in uk climate/salt. any coming out easy either been out at least once before or spent a lot of it's life in dry climate/storage .

I reckon i may have been lucky so, my car was never driven in the UK. I will start a thread on my car as I am rebuilding it, that's why I was taking it out.
