So i bought an second hand engine from Bob at GTI-R-US a few months back. its now finally all wired up and went to start it today, it wont start.

Can someone tell me the correct order for the HT leads to each cylinder. Can some tell me what is cyclinder 1 and cylinder 4.

I can see the crank rotating, also know there is fuel coming from the fuel filter.

Any tips would be great.

You got the plug for the gear box and other one the that's the same in right connections ? You got fuel ? You got spark ?

As johnny said. Check you havent got the two plugs mixed up.
Also check the brown square fuse in the fusebox that is in the engine bay passenger side.
Also check the small blue cable that plugs unto the red plug on the battery.

Battery okay? Injectors spraying correctly? All boost pipes tightened up (when my intercooler pipe popped off car wouldn't start) stock or z32 maf? If z32 has it been mapped for it? Checked distributor? Fresh fuel in tank (goes stagnated after sitting for a while) Ecu wired up properly? Sorry for the long list just trying to run some ideas for you to check Smile

pull the lead off one of the plugs and put a plug in the lead holding it against metal so it earths, when you crank the engine over you should see a spark flash across if not then the dizzy plug connector and reverse light plug are round the wrong way so swap them over and then she should fire up if everything else is all fitted ok

Just checked wiring loom against gtir manual. It' all connected right now, think the reason the fan was running was due to water temperate not being connected.
Just charging battery then time to try and start it

Ok tried again, it seemed to try and start was sounding like it was trying to start then did a big backfire, guess this due to amount of petrol been sprayed in.

Anyway the starter motor seems to make a really loud fast clicking noise know when tyring to start it, sounds like a machine gun and will turn motor over but very very slow. Measured battery voltage and its like 8V so just re-charging battery again. Maybe battery is on its way out. I will pull the battery out of my ford focus tomorrow and try it will that.

If starter click like crazy then it's not getting enough juice oh and make sure you've got your firing order right

I think firing order is correct, i have connected the distributor leads 1-4 to cyclinder 1-4 assuming cyclinder by drivers side / crank is 1, cylinder next to crank cyclinder is 2 and cylinder by gear box is 4

Firing order is 1 3 4 2 if I'm not mistaken I just don't remember which is no 1 on dizzi

Tried charging battery over night but would only get to 11.5V, wouldnt go any higher. I assume this is the reason for the solenoid in the starter motor ticking very fast as it doesnt have enough power. Going to get a new battery.

All ive tried so far is taking pipe between fuel filter and fuel line off, pissed out fuel every where
THen got a multimeter and ensure GND was connected to block, head, gearbox, and any cabling i could see that had GND wires on.
Checked all wiring and belive it is all wired up ok,

Here is a picture of where the distributor is set. sorry not a great photo but its chucking it down with rain today.

For my vacumm lines I've done the following

1 Bar loop
Waster gate actuator to MBC to inlet plenum
Stock boost sensor to Fuel pressure regulator to air chamber on back of inlet plenum (using T piece)
Dump Valve plumped to air chamber on back of inlet plenum
3rd hose that used to go charcoal canister on air chamber has been plugged

When it dries out i need to check im getting spark.

Tbh this what I'd start with check your basics spark and fuel (I thought you've done it by now lol), don't worry about vacuum lines as it still should fire, vacuum leak would cause crappy idle. Oh and good battery is a must but it'll newer have 12v when engine is not running if it goes down more than 8v on crank then it's shot

got it started, its now running.

Need to fit the oil and water temperature sensors but oil pressure was around the 3-4 mark on idle.

It was smoking blue when revved but i think this may be due to oil in the turbo and exhaust from when the last engine went pop. Hopefully that will burn off and smoke will be clear.

Feels great to have it started and running

Good to hear the car is now running Smile
You might want to take the ic off and wash any of the oil out that was blown into it..

Im struggling to find something so i can take another feed off mine to the wastegate.
