Hi all

had a very wierd night not starting gd once warm turns over a fw times before starting but at 1 this morning coming back from a car meet up pull up at petrol station fill up go to start and engine would just turn without firing so looked underbonnet unplugged a few bits and put back in again and nothin then a bloke pulled up in a white van and was filling up his car and ssaid straight away u have a problem with your ecu !!!! and said put it in gear turn the key and turn it straight off again then put into neutral and try starting your car first turn of the key and it started any of you lot had this? (i had been pissing about trying to start for 20 mins before he turned up) or know what it is? i hope it isnt ecu failing as its a uk ecu not import

Does it actually turn over just doesnt fire ... or sound lazy when it turns ?

Turns over fine but not firing then a bloke turned up said has your car got an ecu I said yea he said its that he told me to start it in gear and soon as car moves turn it off put it in neutral and it should start and it did !! I was very surprised but would like to know why and what caused it

Don't see how putting it in gear would make any difference to an ecu fault

likewise

ecu is not controlled by anything on the gearbox so will put that down to a stroke of luck lol

may just have flooded or dodgy connection and by cranking car over in gear may have moved something slightly.

just clean up and check all electrical connections and waterseal them
hopefully nothing more than that

Thats where i was heading i cant see how that would be i would be more inclined with a dodgy connection ...

this problem happened again today and it also stunk of fuel but maybe its because of turning over for so long till it started done code check nothing comes up.

All new less than a year old as engine was half rebuilt oil pump head gasket ... In april/may this year
