I took it one stage further at my last house, the wife had a 1.0ltr Yaris compression had gone on two of the cylinders so as I knew them engines inside out decided to strip it and recondition. Was saving for the wedding so didn't want to buy a new car at the time.

Unknowns to me over the years she had run out of oil on several occasions, so once stripping the engine down I was faced with oil burnt onto the block and head. So my ingenious solution???? Yep as the engines small put it through the dishwasher Laughing came out like new

Thought I had a pic after the cycle.

Worked a treat after the rebuild, sold it 2 years later and it's still going strong to this day!

^ what amazes me mr burrows is you have car parts in kitchen, an engine in the washing machine, you take your wife to scap yards to steals bulbs & you actually did get married & assume you still are today :-O
I will take points off her for running out of oil in the yaris, 50 lashes with a oil dipstick for that offence ...

I did that at my old house. Put rocker cover in the dishwasher problem was rocker came out fine but all the plastic coating on the washer frame was grey with oil, took me far longer to clean the framework than it would have the rocker cover

internal clip pliers will work, sometimes you need grind tips a bit to make them fit slots well, sometimes can help tap them with a suitable flat head screwdriver to get them moving free, can be handy have a wire pick & thin screwdrivers on hand to keep clip partly out & manipulate it out of groove if being stubborn ...

I normally just manipulate them out with a flat screwdriver alot of the time you can get them to budge if you tap them about with a screwdriver and hammer get down the side of it then twist the screwdriver then pull it up then do it to the otherside then your get you pliers on in the groves ...

Got them out thanks lads, I was trying to get them on the ends originally, that's why I had nothing to leverage off and it kept slipping.

I used the smaller flat blade to get the ring out of the seat and then wedged the bigger flat blade behind it, then gently moved the screwdriver around the ring to get it out.

Yep, was going to suggested something along those lines but thought you may have tried it, and you did.

Putting new ones in, bed one end in the recess and put the flat screwdriver in the knotched out slot, put pressure on the ring to get it too slide down the blade and it should just pop in.
