Can anybody tell me who's fitted one there opinions on the location and if they went 13 row, 235mm long or to a bigger core??
I always thought over engine mounting was pointless but if I'm running on track maybe the air through the vent will help it??
If not I'll front mount it somewhere.
I'm planning on doing track days by the way, engine wil be running 300-330bhp.
Thanks, Matt

This is where Nigel (Ducie54) put his. I was going to mount my oil cooler behind the front grill at one point when I was going to run bonnet pins but it didn't really work out.

That will work if you dont have a front mount that goes through the inner wings or alter the pipe work so it can be located on the drivers side ...

Mines a 13 row mounted directly behind the front grill but I've removed the entire bonnet catch assembly & run aero catches

This is how I did mine the first time. Needed a fan as air flow wasn't the best. Mounting it where the std front mount goes will always have the best airflow and efficiently but to close to the turbo manifold for my liking.

Why don't you put it on top of the engine where inter cooler was? Doesn't need to be big

That's what I'm thinking it'd save so much hassle.
I'm looking at just getting a "kit".
I've found one at mattlewisracing for over the engine mounting with a thermostatic sandwich plate and 13 row x 235mm long cooler for £150 delivered.
I'm probably just gonna get that. And have it sat top end of the engine over the fuel rail so it gets air rammed at it through the bonnet vent, ill look into knocking up some sort of heatshield also.
Thanks.

I think you will get away with it mounted over engine.
It may not be best spot possible but will still do the job & good fitting effort should help, some thermal barrier maybe an idea & will help keep some heat soak off, also perhaps mounting brackets off firewall or strutbrace or both would be better than on the engine as would reduce vibration & give cooler assembly less stress.
Just use a quality 13 or 16 core, thermostatic take off plate (same fitting as VW golf etc) & then use bit of spare/scrap hose to dummy run a nice pipe route & work out lengths & best type fittings. don't want leaks as spraying or leaking oil over hot engine could cause a fire or sudden mass failure & oil loss will kill engine in a blink. Plus points for top is potential minimal & easy piping plus out of harms way on light front end hit.

Ordered it and I'll see what I can knock up when I test fit next week.
Hoping to get up to Croft in a couple of weeks :-D

Heaps of people run them on top of the engine and they seem fine.

Mine is fine going off my stack oil temp gauge. I run 16 row mounted ontop of engine at a angle. Seen a couple of people mount them on the actual  bonnet where vent is

Whytie

I've got mine mounted on top of engine with a thermostat fitted, I actually block most of the vent of as it runs slightly to cold for normal road driving.

Only issue I have fitting it on the front is if you have a slight bump you could lose an engine very quickly

i had one on top of engine for years with no issues never overheated ran slightly colder than did
i did fancy doing one in the vent slot but decided against it lot of vibration and your moving pipes every time you open the bonnet
i had side mounted ones in a subaru and in a mazda 323 turbo and had nothing but trouble with them really
