Hello everyone,

I am still having issues getting the scissor lift in my garage installed and working. I have decided that I can no-longer wait (especially over the relatively warmer summer months!) until the lift is operational before starting to work on my GTiR. Therefore I am after some advice on what people deem to be the best jacking and stand locations at the front of our cars. To help provide others with a more-visual aid, I have attached some photos which may assist others looking for similar answers in the future. Please ignore the rust - most parts will be removed, cleaned, and if unrepairable then replaced with new. At the minute I'm just more concerned with where to jack up the car and place axle stands while my bloody scissor lift is sorted. Thanks and any comments welcome!  Very Happy

OK, so looking at the jacking/stand locations in the GTiR manual it states that:
GTiR front jacking and axle stand location GTiR_jacking_points

The stand locations seem to point towards the sills. But due to the state of my sills I'd rather place the axle stands elsewhere, especially since I don't have the "Nissan approved" sill adaptor............... The jacking point at the front is a little unclear. From the photo it looks like the brace just behind the radiator:
GTiR front jacking and axle stand location GTiR_front_beam

Of course, when I took this photo I was initially scared-to-death since it looks like the beam is severely misaligned!  :afraid: However, looking at the GTiR alignment pages, it seems like this is actually supposed to be the case:
GTiR front jacking and axle stand location GTiR_underbody_alignment

(and a zoom-in to the relevant front portion:)
GTiR front jacking and axle stand location GTiR_underbody_alignment_zoom

So with a little bit of reassurance that the brace isn't bent/misaligned I thought this would be the best location to jack the car up:
GTiR front jacking and axle stand location GTiR_front_jacking

Would others agree that this brace is a suitable jacking location???? Of course, now with the car up-in-the-air, I need a place to place the axle stands. I'm guessing the other sides of the front tube aren't suitable (indicated by the red arrow)??????:

If the ends of the front tube aren't suitable, then can the axle stands be placed on the ARB or suspension arm joints (indicated by the red arrows)??????:
GTiR front jacking and axle stand location GTiR_front_stand_position

I'm just looking for a safe place to position the axle stands, and I thought some of these ARB and/or suspension arm joints might be suitable. However, could our experts please let me know if this is totally wrong? And if it is, where would you recommend I position the front axle stands????

Many thanks for your help!
Cheers,
Dave

I jack mine up under that front centre bar as in your picture.
I use a length of 2" square timber to spread the load and put the axle stands under the chassis members just behind where the front roll bar is bolted. Marked "E" in your diagram...

Front tubular beam is indeed best place for jacking front of car & can be used with stands, as said above stands muonted behind wishbone rear bush area on the chassis floor rail using blocks of timber are good.
All depends on what area you working & what needs to be clear for working requirements. Example being you can put a stand on front wishbone mount as arrowed but if working on suspension then limited movement due to stand catching wishbone would hinder the job ...
I never jack or use stands on sills old or new as does um no good.

Thanks for the replies guys, I appreciate it.

Unfortunately when I got my Pulsar it had deeply molested sills, as to did my Sunny. I have replacement sills ready to go into the Sunny, but I don't care quite so much about the Pulsar since it will be a track-only car. I just don't want to make them any worse, hence my need to find out about other stand locations.

Mr B, are you saying that the end of the front tubular beam (i.e. directly under the chassis mounting points - see the arrow in the picture below) is a suitable place to position axle stands? This would be quite good for me as I have relatively high axle stands which could make front brake/suspension work quite easy.

Appreciate the feedback guys! Very helpful!

Yep any of those point i tend to jack off wishbone points or front beam depending on what job your doing then place stands either on the ends of the bar or arb mounts like said already it all depends on what access you need or where as to where you put the stands ie if you want front clearance then place the stands on the arb mounts if you want to do suspension place stands on the front bar as will not hinder you ....never jack off or place stands on sills as its never a good idea especially being old lol ...

This is what I also do and if necessary cut two slots about an inch from the ends too fit over the sill bit, it will assist in holding the wood in place and stop slipping.
