hi folks,

looking at a new set of tyres and wanting to get a good set, i have been recommended to go for a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 3's, which i think sound pretty nice, what does everyone else recommend? the car will be used for general driving and some spirited driving...most of the time Smile i am tempted with semi slicks but im not sure they are the right thing to do as i would like to keep it handling good in all weather conditions.

so what does everyone else use? wheels 205/40/r17 (may go back to 16's sometime though)

Thanks

I've had a great experience with Yokohama parada spec II's fantastic tyre plenty of grip and no lack is stability at higher speed ! Not a cheap tyre but I've always looked at it as you have four bits of rubber keeping you on the road definitely not a place to skimp out! Hope this helps Smile

Toyo T1r's for road! Directional reasonably soft tyres with good grip! They're actually the tyres I left on for the Rockingham meet and people could see the good grip they gave when requested! They aren't even expensive either really!
Type this item number into eBay.... 301283711499
888's are also really good in the rain, but only when they're like new with plenty of tread! Smile

I've just put kumho ku39 's on mine. Haven't done many miles in them yet, but seem pretty good, they have an A rating in the wet and came highly recommended. Have spoken to a couple of people with skylines who have them, and speak highly of them. £87 each I paid, but I didn't really shop around.

my mich pilot sport three are faultless in the rain and dry. Again used them at rockingham minimum wear for the great grip they gave. It would take me some convincing to use something other. I have previous experiance with Pirelli p zero Nero and Toyo but not on the R and the pilot sports out perform them

T1R'S are absolute rubbish.
Used them on my evo and after yoko ad08r's they were like driving on ice- so much so, that i binned them after 300miles!

Yoko Parada's spec 2's are a reasonable all round road tyre- used them on track in my evo 3 and cooked them very quickly, once they have had a heat cycle through them, they brake up and are no good for track use.

Michellin ps3's are good tyres and work well on my bmw's- the side walls give out first on track and it maybe more of an issue on a Awd but defo better than the rest mentioned.

R888's are a very noisy road tyre but are amazing track tyre and ok in the wet- not great if there is standing water and so unless the gtir is a weekend car i wouldnt recommend them as your all weather road tyre. Otherwise they are a great option in that size.

Not sure which are best in that size but will get back once i have time to look.
try tyre leader.uk and ebay for good deals. Camskill can be good aswell.

I've always used Toyo's and been very happy with them !
Cant comment about track use but for fast road use i found them excellent in all weather conditions and as said above very affordable.

I promise you- if you were to try another brand or even the toyo r1r then you would be blown away with the improvement.
Michellin ps3 seem a good all round tyre in that size, Kumho v700, toyo 888's, are available in that size for track work.

I have to run msa class 1a road tyres for the sprint series i compete in and so have experience in road tyres that work on track and ones that dont,
My evo 3 ( spare car for when my vi is broken) uses the same size tyres that the pulsar 17" wheels use.

For daily road use i'd say a good all rounder is the ps3 or maybe the Parada spec 2's ( they arent great in wet but are acceptable in normal conditions and offer a marginable amount of grip if not pushed too hard on a dry track.

If it's just a weekend toy then a cheap set of 888's or kumho's can be had off ebay for not alot..

If you can fit them the best tyre for your needs would be the Yokohama ado8r's!
Great in all road conditions and a worthy track day tyre too.

only available in 205 45 17 tho

cheers guys, im not in the market for slicks really as when the snow comes ill still need to drive the car, i was recommended federal semi slicks for the track style tyre but really need all around tyres, i hear bad stories about the paradas and the t1-r's (mostly people saying they are just budget tyres) even though i did like the t1r's on my civic.

the advans look pretty nice tbh but shame about the 45, my arches scrape alot with the 40's on back roads

Buy a set of winter tyres off ebay -theyre cheaper this time of year.and a spare set of alloys.
Then  buy some decent semi slicks or summer tyres.
If you can run 16"s then see what decent tyres you run in that fitment.

Ado8rs would be my choice for summer tyres as they work well in all conditions.

I've been using Uniroyal Rainsport 3's on my Fabia and to be honest for the price they are hard to beat.

Fantastic in the wet or dry totally inspire confidence through the bends and reduced understeer massively on a similar front heavy car..
