So I'm running a 0 gauge cable from the battery in the boot to the front of the car. I cut some of it yesterday to redo a section and there is a fine layer of green crap between the insulation and the copper core, looks like oxidation or something. Any idea, is it bad? The power cable is that red transparent cable see you on amps etc.

Id take a photo but my phone is rooted.

I would say dont worry to much although its not great but its not going to rot out all copper core oxidises to some degree its the nature of the material ....
you cant take pictures because you rooted your phone .... that dont sound right somehow rooting should still be able to use camera function ???

I was thinking of using a circuit breaker rather than a battery isolation switch this time around. Anyone used them before? I was going to use a 100amp but think I'll need to do some maths to confirm.

In theory it should not unless there is a problem. I do know the cheap ones of these type if you hit bumps in the road trip off. I think there more suited to sound systems. Hope this helps or is food for thought mate

If in the future wood you decide to change your power cable try and replace it with an oxygen free cable they are a wee bit more pricey but it will prevent oxidation of the copper especially if you are to route it from the outside and under the car.

Another think to do while your at it is replace the major + cables ie the ones going to alternator and starter

Hope this help a wee bit

Thanks for the advice lads. I just need to make sure it's the right amp so I don't run into any problems like Johnny pointed out but they are a good idea.

I just replaced the starter motor cable Indy Smile

Was yours the 100amp Mr Stu?

At least if it trips under heavy load you can reset it unlike a normal in line fuse, car would still be driveable that way. Undecided about one at this stage.

The circuit breaker is to protect your wire so should be rated less than the wire max load. The biggest load from the battery is from your starter motor during cranking.

Have a look at OEX battery and starter wire.

That looks like a oxygen free cable just cut the corroded bit off and strip the end you can put some sort of conductive gel to keep it from oxidising befor connection it will be fine

Thanks mate, it's actually like that throughout the cable not just the end but not as bad. Apparently it isn't a big deal from what I've been told.
