Ok Chaps,

I will start making a manifold for my R.

My idea is to make an sidewinder like Lovefab use to do ......

Please post pictures of Sidewinder Manifolds so that I can inspire myself.

Thanks,
B

How about doing a twin sroll manifold for the tdo5 from late evo range as good & cheap/easily sourced turbo.

Yeh not the best turbo orientation.
lovefab one was quite good & would work well with a charge cooler allowing short neat piping through charge cooler & on to inlet manifold.

Year ah....but a charge cooler is not good for the track or intense road use!

and where on earth did you hear that from? scratch

best setup you could possibly have to keep charge temps down

For intense road use charge cooler fine, for track if the water capacity is not great enough &/or radiator not big enough or lacking good airflow it is possible for the water to become too warm & efficiency drops.
Plus point's is potential very high efficiency, very direct short inlet piping.
Negative points are cost, complexity, some extra weight & potential efficiency loss with long term on boost scenarios such as multiple track laps will suffer unless water capacity quite large & the systems water radiator needs be highly efficient & well positioned.
Charge coolers are not used much mainly as more expensive & bit more complex to fit but they do lend themselves well to the gtirs space & saves chopping holes in a lot of things & do work well if done right.

Main reasons people had issues with charge coolers was they fitter too small a unit to cope with prolonged hot boost & water system had not enough volume. Do those 2 points right & they damn good.
Problem with water is it quite heavy so some weight conscious track car people go off the charge cooler easily.

would say they are slightly heavier than an air to air cooler but not by much as the rad is nowhere near as thick so ways much less.
ive been on track in the summer heat running 1.6bar boost for around 20 minute sessions and the cold side is still cold when you come back in to pit so cant ask any more than that.
cant remember what coolant capacity was but think around 4ltr and I also used a coolant additive which may have helped with low temps also.

if I had found it no good it would have been up for sale long ago lol

I think they lend themselves to the R very well in terms of fitment benefits.
They can be very good but many people scrimp on water capacity & radiator quality/size hence tales of problems.

yhpm bogdan Wink

these are the only pics I have of the setup when it was in my track car

Turbo Manifold pictures! 001pjw
Turbo Manifold pictures! 002ldr

so until I refit it all in the rashiteen cant be any more help

but basically the rad sits down quite low (similar to where ic would be on a pulsar) so it has full airflow, the filler pot is mounted under the bonnet along with the heat exchanger.
the pump is fitted under front wheel arch just behind brake duct so its tucked up out the way.

that's about it really theres nothing more to it other than a wire feed, plus I fitted a switch inside the car so needed to turn pump on manually rather than have it running from ignition

Interesting.

But ..... I think that in order to get the temps right you will need a big water tank....which will add weight.

I will think about it!
