UK Sunny GTI-R

Hi everyone,

I have removed the old grooved discs and fast road pads which the previous owner fitted so I can replace them with genuine Nissan stuff. While I was on I got the struts, springs and hubs shot blasted. The springs were powder coated and the hubs, struts were painted (just got them back today). The lower arm ball joints were changed even though the old ones were OK. What a chew on they are to get out without a ball joint press. I had to make some tools to get them out using a G clamp. I have also painted the front calipers and I have some refurbished rear calipers to go on when I am done with the front set up. Also removed the front inner arches and cleaned everything before using some underseal for a bit of protection!

Nice and clean! is the plan for your sunny to keep it fully stock then?

Thats right. Totally stock. They are worth more when original nowadays.
I have changed the wheels but they can be easily swapped back over at any time.

Yeah ive seen a original Pulsar GTIR sell for like 8k on ebay some time ago. You just dont see any stock ones really, same with skylines supras etc.

Those suspension struts and bits look awesome.

What under seal did you go for?

The underseal was bought from Halfords.

Fitted the built up shock on the near side. I hate spring compressors, they are dangerous!
I had to stop because I need some brake disc cleaner before I fit the rest. Nothing is going to get done this weekend, off to Edinburgh for a good drink, thats if the trains are still running with all this snow.

this sort of stuff is tempting me to go back to 100% stock, good work looks awesome

that one on ebay actually brought the full asking price at 9k, think the winter green one sold for 8k
and they are going to be worth more very soon if in good stock condition

Got some brake cleaner and fitted the discs/calipers tonight. Now I have to do the same all over again for the offside wheel

We're the discs and pads from nissan? If so how much?

I have 3 uk sunny gtirs im doing up. Hopefully worth something one day.

Everything is Genuine Nissan and ordered from a Nissan dealership.

Clutch master cylinder £84.26 + vat
Front brake disc's £40.46 + vat each
Rear brake pads £45.33 + vat pair.

Finally finished the offside today. I will take the car out for a test drive to make sure everything is OK when it isn't raining. Then I am looking forward to replacing the clutch master cylinder, NOT. After reading several posts on the site it sounds like a bit of a chew on to do.



I have also just bought some new rear brake discs, cheap at £35 for the pair from ICP.

I have taken the car out for a test drive and the anti lock brake warning light is permanently on. I had to knock out the ABS sensors when I was refurbishing the hubs since they were jammed in solid and I have damaged the nearside sensor but luckily I got a pair second hand from Poland of all places. This has been fitted to the car and taken for another test drive. All is OK now.

Had a go this weekend at trying to fit the clutch master cylinder. What a ball ache!!!
Just a tip for anyone trying to do this remove the u shaped bracket on the end of the master cylinders shaft that fastens to the pedal and remove the plastic reservoir on the cylinder. I managed this job with just removing the intercooler to gain access. Just as well since I found all of the bolts missing which hold it onto the mounting bracket. It took about 4 hours to do.

The intercooler cover had been painted/powder coated grey by the previous owner and it is actually a good idea to stop the rust from standing water but I want the car to be standard so I have fitted another cover that I have polished up.

One of my jap pulsars (the red one) is pretty much stock, just like yours but not as clean as it has (200,000 kms - 125,000 miles) on the clock.

Very tempted to clean the old girl up and get her looking like yours.
