Hi Guys,

Does anyone know if the Tomei N2 Super Oil Block Adaptor will fit the R?
i need to fit my cooler, and i'll relocate the filter whilst at it, and it looks the neatest way, and comes with 2 outputs so i can fit new oil temp and pressure gauges.
Plus it tidies it up back there and eliminates having a sandwich plate.
There was an Oz guy seelling something similar, and GTiR specific, on one of the other forums a few years ago i think but they must all be long gone.
Without removing the standard housing i have no idea, so was hoping one of you gurus out there might know.
Bobby, any ideas?

Heres a link to it on Nengun....

Cheers

Ben

That basically same concept & inspiration of the Oz made ones.
The one in your link won't work on the 54c block.

Far as I know they have all gone. I haven't seen anyone selling one in awhile. If you hunt one down I know there were a couple of slightly different versions.

Haha well I know mine is the first series and one of the fittings sits closer to the power steering bracket, pretty sure that's something that changed later on

Really bob? Because of oil preasure drop? I've seen them mounted in pretty stupid spots though, I'd hate for a seal to burst and spray oil all over a hot manifold.

yeah your not far wrong there johnny you are the northern branch gti-waeey r-us lol

yes youll get oil pressure drop from cold start and in time that will destroy your engine. also as you rightly say........people put them in stupid locations where there can be a real fire risk, plus with the extra length of more braided lines in tight restricted places you icrease the risk of fractured pipes through chaffing plus electrical shorts from many multiplugs and other electrical components
so in short they are a very bad idea and serve no real purpose

Thanks guys,
OK, so what would you guys reccomend for oil cooler fitting? Just use a mocal sandwich plate, or a Greddy?
Also, if using something like the Tomei adaptor, or the Oz made GTiR specific version, wouldnt you have to relocate the filter, as it doesnt mount on the adaptor and you remove the standard part?
Johnny, if you have one fitted on your car, how have you mounted your filter. Yes a pic would be good.
Thanks.
Ben

Great, thanks Bob.
Also, i need to pop down and see you very soon.
Are you open on Weekends for a visit?
My passenger side window is broken. Ive take the door card off and can see the cable has snapped Shocked
Anything you can sort out for me whilst i wait?
Also the speedo is a it erratic at times. not a major problem as i rounghly know what speed im doing by revs, but always get a bit worried when going through speed cams.
Oh and need a battery box also, if you anything nice and good for on track, not sure if they come MSA approved.

Cheers

Ben

When using adaptor just use short pipe run & keep filter low near original location.
Best & easy option for most is just use original filter housing, quality filter & quality thermostat oil cooler sandwich adaptor. The mocal VW golf plates fit R fine.
With limited sources of getting the Oz style adaptor & cost/hassle for no real major benefit is deciding factor for most.

If the system is built correctly there should be no issues. I've seen setups were they use only dash 8 lines and sharp angled fittings. Of course there would be pressure drop.

Using dash 10 hose, full flow fittings with a good quality oil cooler you want have a drama. Btw any oil pressure sensor should be mount after the oil filter and oil cooler.

think were on different pages here im talking about the oil filter relocation kits you see on ebay ect, not talking about oil cooler as nothing wrong with those if fitted correctly

It's the Mocal MLR.SRK1, OTSP1 3/4"UNF filter thread.
Fits loads of VW's including Golf GTI, Punto & also I think fits a few Toyota's such as MR2
Main reason for knowing this is you can find them much cheaper (did a few years back anyway) for a Golf compared to a GTiR when the part is 100% the same :-S

You talked about pressure drop if I'm not mistaken. A remote filter block would have to be a really bad design to causes a pressure drop. As Ben mentioned about fitting his oil cooler and pressure sensors I'd thought I'd share some advice on those too. Just because others have had bad experiences due to poor setup shouldn't mean that it's not recommended.

Well I've seen 4 cars fitted with these over the years and all have suffered pressure loss on cold start up including one I had fitted to my own car, I removed it and problem solved
The pump is not designed to build pressure that quickly with the extra lines and so forth so we will have to disagree on this one.
and besides what is the point? absolute waste of time other than making the oil filter slightly easier to change

Strange as the gtir oil pump has larger oil pump gears than all but the Sr20ve series motors. Larger surface area of filter can also be advantageous along with easy reach.

For those that are after a remote oil block Mazworx has made them for awhile now http://www.mazworx.com/store/p/134-Mazworx-SR20DET-GTi-R-Oil-Block-Adapter.aspx

I didn't know mazworx did one. I'm going to get rid of my gtiroz one. I much prefer that design over using 90 fittings. Not sure if there would be a difference functionally though?
