On My car I have the 3 main mounts in the solid rubber style, they may be nismo ones or copies. Previously it also had the rear rock stabiliser solid as well but that was removed as it made vibration in the cabin unbearable. Currently the noise in the cabin is far louder than the car is outside, It wasn't as noticeable when I had the 5zigen on but since changing to the magnex its more pronounced.

What real noticeable benefits do these mounts have on a road car? Aside from the noise they keep making some of my jubilees on my water/fuel/intake pipework come loose with the vibration. I am considering going back to normal style if I have a decent set in my parts bin.

tbh you only really need one mount on front of gearbox and one on the engine main mount.
by putting the one on the rear of box it just makes everything too stiff and causes massive vibration issues as you say, plus it wont do your gearbox any favours.

another good way to uprate the mounts but allow for a bit of movement is by filling the voids in the rubber with silicone, costs peanuts and very affective on a road car

I have seen before about filling the voids and was going to do so with urethane sealant but doesn't this make them similar to the solid rubber I already have?

I'm not that fussed about having uprated mounts unless there is a good reason to do so on a road car?

It would be in between, not as stiff as a full poly bush mount and at the same time it would allow less movement then a stock mount Smile

I've done them before with black everbuild PU40, £3.99 a tube. sets bit more firm/rubbery than silicone & is very adhesive so stays bonded & lasts almost as well as if a one piece bushing. Obviously bit stiffer than standard but nothing like the solid hard rubber/poly mounts ...

on a road car I would not see the need for uprated mounts as long as you said yourself the standard ones are in fair condition

I might look into making some out of a worn set then and seeing how it differs, I doubt I have a full set of decent standard mounts but the shelves are that rammed with gtir parts that I never know what I'm going to uncover

Got rid of most of my panels recently as they just take up space, will regret it if I need them but that's life, still holding onto my uncut bumpers though.

So I finally got round to filling some standard mounts with sealant, did the main mount and gearbox front mount tried previously just changing the rear gearbox one to standard but made no difference.

What a difference, much more pleasant to drive and no more ringing ears after a journey, can hold a conversation without raising my voice and much, much less buzzing trim.

No noticeable added engine movement either.

Used Dow betafill which is a urethane seam sealer with a shore hardness of about 50 for those interested.

Afraid not, I get it from my local auto paints supply. It's a seam sealer.
