How do I do one of these? I Have a top Mount intercooler is it okay to leave it off?

Get engine warmed up. Remove all spark plugs and stop fuel getting in.. pull pump fuse or remove injector plugs. Screw compression tester into spark plug hole and have someone crank it over at wide open throttle. Should stabilise at around 4/5 cranks.

Record reading and repeat for other 3 cylinders, it's ok to leave intercooler off.

You are looking for between 130 - 170psi roughly but gauges vary, the most important thing is reasonable consistency between cylinders. I did a compression test yesterday and had around 150psi on all 4 with a cheap sealey gauge which I think reads a touch under

Under 130psi and put a teaspoon of oil down the plug hole and repeat test, if it improves compression it indicates a problem..

Do I need to take all 4 plugs out or leave three in each time?
DoI need to disconnect anything from the distributor?

Take all 4 plugs out & leave dizzy as leads are not connected once plugs are out

Best thing to do is disconnect the little silver box in the top right of the engine bay next to the top of the strut. That's the resistor pack for the injectors so with that disconnected no fuel will be injected Wink

Yep as bill says the resistor pack is probably the quickest way to disable the injectors its a multi plug so it just unclips ....

That would definitely be the easiest way to disable the injectors, didn't think of that.

177 Psi on all 4.

I had oil on my plugs on the thread though not lots just a bit..

The actual point was dry seemed fine.

The oils probably come from the o rings leaking under the rocker cover and filling the plug wells with oil in which case soon as you removed the plugs the oil would have dropped into cylinders and would give you a false reading
But even so if they were all the same that's a good reading

Is there a guide how to replace these? And what's the part number on the seals

12Compression test Empty Re: Compression test 28th April 2014, 11:21 pm

Easy to replace, pop the rocker cover off, pull the old gaskets out the cover, little smear of oil on the new gaskets and push them.

Part number not sure of - perhaps 13271-65F00 but that is stated as for s14.

Full gasket kits are available though - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nissan-Pulsar-Sunny-GTiR-Complete-Rocker-Cover-Gasket-Kit-/280874657703?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item41656f27a7

Part number for gtir rocker gasket is 13270-53J05 though I don't know if it includes the plug well gaskets.
