Managed to remove all the bolts on the manifold apart from one. Counting from the right towards the left its number four!

Should I use any specific tools?

If you have no ac pump fitted you can get a ring spanner on from the underside
Then if you use a lever bar such as an old screwdriver you can use that to lever the spanner through the gap in the top until it's loose enough to undo by hand with the spanner

Do you reckon it would work? Going to try it tonight..

I tried one of these sockets yesterday. The difference in this one is you don't have to add the socket on at the end. It comes on the joint. If that makes sense. So I am saving length

Trouble with them ive found is trying to keep the socket on straight without twisting it off while trying to undo it if that makes sense .... hopefully you find that being case fella.

If like the link, they are generally not that useful, walldrive ones on compact wabble joint rather than the pinned UJ are little better but as stated already if slips & rounds head off badly you got an even trickier job.

Is it possible to leave the dreaded "bastard bolt" off when refitting? Or is it 100% required for a proper seal?

Cheers,
Dave

No I haven't got a picture unfortunately.
That socket was working absolutely fine it decided to snap due to un even pressure maybe.

Anyways the stud is sticking over an inch out.. The bolt is completely off..

Where do I get a new one from Nissan?

You don't need to put that one back with a cast manifold as the one sitting next to it is enough to draw it in tight. Plus if you ever have to take it off again it makes the job much easier.
Make sure you use a new gasket though

Oh really.. It wouldnt leak at all?
Very Happy good to know I have a cast manifold

Yes I have a new gasket.

Anyways bob i've got to the actuator now!! I looked in the Turbo for cracks and if there was any play.
Penny all looks fine..

Now I just need to connect a decent pump to the actuator. I did connect a foot pump. The rod was moving fine is hard to tell what pressure it's opening.

Should it start to open at 0.4 then be fully extended at 0 .7?

Think it's 0.6 standard opening pressure but I could be wrong there so best to check.
Is the turbo spinning freely?

So the rod shouldn't move before 0 .6?

Seems slightly tight don't know if that's normal..

It should spin with just minor resistance if journal bearing tubby, if it's tight that could be the problem

If you ever decide to remove the broken stud best way i found is weld a nut on top of it then it will budge ..... standard actuator opens at 0.5 i thought ???

My mate has this wrench which grips anything super wrench its called.
Probably heat it up a bit, then go for it. Not bothered if it gets chewed up. Because I don't need it again...
