Ok car came off the road last sept for the winter and a respray, up till then breaks we're fine, however while at the painters he commented that over the two weeks he had it it was getting harder and harder to push around the workshop but I just put it down to surface rust or lack of use. However taken it for the mot today and noticed the breaks we're holding me back slightly, it passed but he said the breaks we're sticking but I know him we'll and said I'd strip the callipers as soon as I got home which I have done including removing and cleaning the main piston and the two sliders. Only thing I can find is the top slide pin which is slightly smaller than the bottom one is a bit stiffer than the other. Not sticking (you can move it in and out by hand ) but apart from that everything else is clean free and greased. Spun the wheel and fine till you press the break then it breaks but doesn't fully release. You can turn the wheel by hand when on axel stands but it's very hard to do. Any idea's folks?? Is there a valve or anything that can stick???

Yes bob, also the anti lock light is on the dash, but I can't see that causing any problems but could be wrong

I have a similar thing but with one caliper at the front  but havnt worked it out .... ive stripped my caliper down scrubbed it up its got brand new everything .... when up on axle stands i started it up all spin round fine other than that one catches as it spins slower it throws the abs light up ... took it for a spin and it doesnt throw the light up due to momentum of the car pushing it the same ...

Been speaking to a mechanic mate who says as it's all four and I've gone over all the callipers he thinks it's the master cylinder pushing breaks on but not returning so holding them on. I've left it half an hour and the wheels turn slightly now as if the pressure has slowly released. He said over the years break fluid and crap can build up on the seals and plunger in the master cylinder making it stick and as I think it's easy to exchange then that will be my 1st point of call. He said to test my servo by pumping breaks up hard then starting the car and if the pedal drops half an inch or so then that's working ok. Hopefully this thread will help someone else in the future.

Right just found this of a nivara... Ive got a GTiR master cylinder sat infront of me now & its identical, looks the same lengh & brake line ports are in the exact same place., Only thing that's different is the resivuar Wink
Plus with it being of a navara its got to be the same size internal bore, if not bigger Wink

7/8 is slightly smaller but shouldn't make a difference as long as the internal length is the same or rod may be too short/long
