assuming you have no vacuum or boost leaks and your ignition system is in good order then you can nail it down to one of two things

1) fuel starvation coming on to boost, faulty pump. blocked filter either in tank or mainline filter, poor voltage to pump

2) dodgy afm...........one of the biggest causes of stuttering on boost, could be a bad earth (run an independent earth) or just a dodgy maf itself or connection to it

The lift pump is quite noisy, and would it constantly be on?

The pump should prime when turn the igntion on .... then it will constantly be on when you turn it over and run the engine .... what pump do you have ?

That could be the problem, when we turn on ignition (not running) it's just constantly kicks and doesn't just prime, it's just a standard fuel pump ATM as we haven't had the car to long to change it yet,

that's bloody dangerous if you have an accident in the car.

could be a dodgy fpr not holding pressure at the rail thus underfuelling. the pump should prime up for around a second or two then switch off until you crank engine over then it should run continuously supplying fuel under pressure at the rail

yes the aftermarket fpr's still need a vacuum source and are connected to return rail

you wont need one though unless your running big power and your injectors are too small
