Hi, I have recently replaced the turbo on the gtir with brand new gt28, now when boost comes in all it does is splutters and bangs. I have checked for fault codes and nothing has shown. All the boost pipes and vac pipes are all on correct as well so I am very confused. Also does anyone know what fuel pressure they run standard? Thanks

I thought the fuel was around the 3/3.5 mark

Why did you change the turbo ..... ? Did it give up the ghost oil seals etc .... what set up do you have .... boost controller .... ? Stand actuator ? The more info the better Wink

We changed the turbo as the seals went and did its duty of filling everything with oil, it's pretty much standard engine wise with a avcr boost controller and a front mount cooler. It's on standard new actuator what came with the new turbo as well,

Aridium tips, it has new leads and disputer arm. All the questions are good :-), they all have a strong spark and I just checked fuel pressure, it's runng between 3 and 3.5 bar. So confused

Sounds like a boost leak to me, tend to splutter ect when having a leak, check there's no pin pricks in any vac pipes, intercooler pipes are tight, test as many pipes as you can

So does it boost at all or just keeps spluttering before it winds the turbo up ?

Bin the plugs straight away... the fancy iridium tip jobbys just cause more hastle & problems. Best to use standard tip plugs BCR8ES are good favourates

Iriduim plugs are known for playing up .... most people stick ngk bcr8 es in and are damn sight cheaper aswell .... not saying this is your problem just have to rule things out along the way .

I will have to purchase the plugs thanks. When I revved it standing it was ok, when u drive you can hear the turbo wind up but as soon as it comes in it just splutters and bangs. Do you know if all the vaccine points need blanking?

If you have any vac pipes that arnt connected to anything they will need blanking off, if you have a boost leak it won't really show when just revving unless its a huge one like an intercooler pipe totally off, any leaks do show up though once the car comes on boost

Is this problem only started when you have changed the turbo ?

23Boost problems Empty Re: Boost problems 23rd July 2013, 8:31 pm

You will have 4 vac nipples behind rocker cover on each throttle body, make syre there blanked off unless you are running standard breather setup

Tbh I'm not in front of it ATM, it came fitted to the car when I got it and it was all ok the last time it was running, when I say the other four I mean there are are 4 vac points and 4 other nipples what look like the vac points next to each vac point, bit of a mouth full haha, can they be blanked?

When you can just post a pic up of the pipes your talking about, might be easier to help then
